We recently rented a house within the Reunion Resort community for our annual stay in the Orlando area.

I have to say that it was the worst experience ever. We rented through an outside firm and not the complex itself. We were not entitled to the same amenities that those renting through the resort received.

The area is basically a construction zone. Evidently there was a tax incentive last year and several investors and construction companies have purchased lots within the complex and are in the process of building spec homes. Once this is done it will be great for the community however at this time if you rent a vacation home in Reunion you will be part of the construction site.

The homes are close together and construction starts every morning at 8 am. If you think you are going to have a peaceful afternoon at the pool you may as well find something else to do!

We drove around the complex and found that on most of the streets you can find construction however the part of the complex on the west side of I-4 is the worst.

I would stay here again because I liked the area and the close drive to Disney however would wait a few years until the construction is done.

Wow, we were just there in May and loved it. I actually did not see any construction at all, but I did not go over to the west side of I-4. We stayed in one of the Wyndham timeshare units.

Wow...count me as another that's surprised by this. We were just there last summer and had an incredible time. In fact, I ranked Reunion as one of my favorite resorts in Orlando. Of course, we stayed in the main resort building as well and didn't rent a home.

I think our mistake was that we did not stay in the resort complex. There are seven areas however the resort does not have rental properties in all of the areas. If you stay immediately around the resort you should be ok.

The homes being built are obviously being built by construction companies and sold to investors for the purpose of vacation properties. We did see a couple of homes that appeared as they were actual residents living in the homes daily.

The street we were on had 7 homes in construction and 9 additional lots with signs indicating construction coming soon.

The resort itself is beautiful, the restaurants great and the staff accomodating.

My advise is to rent directly from the resort. It may cost slightly more but the overall experience will be better.

If you rent a private home you have to know what level of membership they have in the resort to know what amenities will be available.

To make sure you get it all you can either rent from the resort or stay on Wyndham points. You can rent from a Wyndham owner, but don't expect the discounts to be as deep as at BC, because only 3BR are available so owners can't maximize discounts with their points as much.

We really enjoy this resort (a lot more than BC)

Reunion has become our offsite accomodation of choice, when we run out of Dvc points and we have stayed there twice and will be staying there again during Christmas week this year.

During our last stay in june, we noticed as we drove up to the house, that there was construction behind the house, which meant that the construction was right behind the master bedroom and one of the other bedrooms. You could also see the construction from the pool. At first I worried about the noise and also worried about using the pool, but, we had nothing to worry about, except for seen them working, as we did not hear a sound during the 8 days we stayed there.

The section where we stayed was very residential, although there were a few empty lots down the street.

Grammy J sounds like your experience was completely the opposite and I would like to avoid that, can you share the name of the property where you stayed?

Thanks for posting the map and info. We are book for April close to the Waterpark and that looks like the non construction side. Taking MIL on this trip and everything has to be "perfect"

We stayed on Desert Mountain Court which is located near the big white tent they use for the Nickalus golf course. The were many other homes under construction on the street just before ours. I think it was called Castle point???

I just looked at the map that Dave posted and we stayed in the Fairway Ridge area.

When we stayed with Wyndham points in May we were in the "Condominiums at Reunion Square" according to that map and did not see any construction. Pretty close to the water park also and got free entrance.

Although, when we were there I'm pretty sure it was called Sandy Ridge, so I'm not sure where the names on that map come from.

Sounds like its the west side of the resort where the construction is taking place. Thats west of the I4. I think the east side of the resort is complete and pretty luxurious. Its where many of the original reunion communities were built. I think the west side of the resort is where plots of land are sold and rich Bernie Madoff types can construct super-mansions with 100 seat cinemas etc. Reunion really struggled for a few years after the 2008 property crash but is back on the up again i think. Although they still have those silly rules around waterpark access and the like.

I can't say that I understand the concept of Reunion, it's a hotel but it's not memeberships are involved however there are different levels of membership which can affect your stay.

The "resort" wants to appear upscale however it obviously needs maintainence. When we visited the resort for dinner we noticed that it exterior needs work and although the lobby and entry area were nice the building itself appeared to have some issues....
