Returns to REI - "satisfaction guaranteed"

I bought a heart rate monitor watch from REI about 6 months ago. Since about 2 months after purchase I've had a ton of problems with it. I've contacted the manufacturer but haven't received a response.

I bought it at REI with my REI membership card. I no longer have the receipt.

Will REI actually give me a refund on the watch if I take it back? I've taken really good care of it so it's pretty clear it's a problem with the watch.

Also, will they be able to look up my receipt using my REI membership number?

Yes, they will take it back. They can look up your purchase with your membership info. We love REI. It's the Costco of outdoor goods!

REI changed their return policy sometime in the last few years to be one year from date of purchase, rather than forever, which I think LL Bean still does.

It also does say this, however: If your item has a manufacturing defect in its materials or workmanship, you can return it at any time. See our limited warranty.

And I'll also say that REI is really good about things if they can't be returned. DH bought a bike rack there that rusted through in about 2 years. That's not supposed to happen at all, but it wasn't under warranty and not covered by REI's return policy anymore. The guy at the store knew there was a defect and gave DH $400 off a new bike rack of his choice. I thought that was quite nice of him, because he didn't have to do anything.
