Returning my rental car late

I went in to modify my rental with Alamo and the price was doubled! I really need to add a day to my reservation. What will I be charged if I return it 7 hours late? Will it just be the daily rate on my contract? That is only $38 a day compared to $330 more if I modify it?

Possibly. No one can answer this unequivocally, but it is well within their rights to charge you an extra day for that overage. It's possible they won't, but possible they will.

If you're more than 30 minutes late, they begin adding an hour extra charge, until the extra charges for each extra hour exceed the daily rate and then they charge you for an extra day.....at your daily rate.

Rates have likely changed (significantly) which is why rebooking is giving you such a huge difference.

Don't modify. Return it late and you will be charged according to what your contract says. I have done this before. However, I did call toward the end of my trip and ask to confirm the additional charge and it was according to what my contract said.

Do not return a car late without actually getting permission. They could refigure the entire rental to a new rate.

If I am going to be late I just dont call...the car places have even told me NOT to call because it would redo my contract...they will just charge you the extra day...lots of time its cheaper.
