Return to the Madness: Part 9 Day 6 3/2 Arrrgh, Pirates! And a quiet breakfast for two.
Cast:
Me: Obsessive Disney Planner, Disney Commando in 12 step program learning how to do Disney with kids!!!
DH 30- Loves Disney as much as me, but content to sit at the pool and watch the kids
DD6- knows everything, or thinks she does
DD5- loves everything, especially if it is pink
DS4- loves Buzz. We call him Stitch, he is messy and destructive, but very cute.
In our original plan for this trip, today was supposed to be our last day. As I mentioned in an earlier report, we extended our stay by one day, so our we have to go home today blues would not be setting in for at least 24 hours!
I had scheduled the kids for the Pirate Adventure a.k.a. the Pirate Cruise. It is at the Grand Floridian and was only $28.00 and some change per child. We were supposed to have them at the Mousketeer Club around 9 am and we would pick them up at 1130am. We took the boat over to the Contemporary, and decided to take the monorail to the GF. We called the front desk first, to make sure the boats were running, I think the times they start vary depending on what day it is. It was running, and we had plenty of time. I think we left our room by 8:15am. There was a man and his wife, and their two young children. (I would say 2 and an infant.) The baby was in the stroller. When the boat came, he literally pushed my kids out of the way so that he could get on the boat first. I looked at DH and kind of made eyes at this man. We had our children wait to board the boat, since this man was obviously in a hurry. The boats captain told him and his wife, they would have to fold up the stroller, which meant taking the baby out of it. This irritated the man. (As I said, he was in a hurry, and this was obviously wasting his time.) The rest of us boarded as he hurriedly folded his stroller. As I mentioned, this was the boat to the contemporary, it is smaller than the boats to the MK. Once we were all aboard, we were quickly on our way. We made small talk with a woman behind us. They were on their way to Chef Mickeys for breakfast. I overheard the Man in the Hurry say to his wife, that this boat would take them to the front of the MK. I guess in his big hurry, he didnt realize he was on the wrong boat.
When we pulled up to the Contemporary, everyone left the boat. The Man and his wife struggled to get the baby back in the stroller and debated about putting the 2 year old in the backpack carrier. The wife was very calm, and trying to get her Husband to calm down. We unfolded one of our strollers, which was why I heard their conversation, we were both working on our strollers in the same spot. Anyway, the husband went on ahead at a breakneck speed. I mentioned to the wife, that there was a boat that would take them directly from WL to MK, but they had taken the wrong one. I also told her that they could either walk to MK, about 5-10 minutes, or they could take the monorail. Her DH heard me and said, I am not waiting in another line, where do we go to walk? She then told him she was taking the monorail! They followed us up to the monorail, and the whole time he was complaining about how bad the transportation system was and how they were now going to be late. He also said he refused to stand in any long lines. When the monorail arrived, it did so as we got up to monorail level, we entered a different compartment. I laughed and told my husband he should be glad that I was not that much of a commando, and I asked him what he thought about Mr. In a Hurry Man. He thought it would be funny to see his face when he got to the MK and saw that there were lines to get in, and lines for rides, and lines for food, and lines for the bathroom!
The kids enjoyed their ride on the monorail. We made it to the GF in no time. I have always thought the Grand Floridian was so beautiful. We found where we were supposed to be and were told that the water portion of the adventure was cancelled. It was cold and very windy. One woman said her kids would not do it if they were not going on the boat. The CM agreed that she would not charge them, but it did say that in cases of bad weather, they do the adventure at the resort. My kids said it would be fun no matter where they did it. We signed them in, and dropped them off. We were given a pager and told to be back at 11:30am. The kids were given Mickey pirate hats with their names on them, and were watching the new Peter Pan until everyone arrived.
Once we had dropped the kids off, we werent really sure what to do with ourselves. WE talked about heading to the Magic Kingdom to do some rides, but instead chose to have a nice breakfast just the two of us. We ate in the GF. We both had steak and eggs. Our waiter was Izzy, he was funny. He sat down and talked to us for a few minutes. He was great.
After breakfast, we decided to head over to the MK to pick up a picture from the previous day. We got to the monorail, and I noticed that no one was sitting up front, so I asked if we could. The driver said yes so DH and I got to ride up front with her. It was nice. We had done this in August, but since it only holds four, DH had to sit in the back so I could ride with the kids. It was a nice view.
WE found the picture we were looking for, and then had a few of just me and DH taken. Then we browsed around the shops a little. Since the MK had just opened, most people had headed for rides, so the shops were empty. It was nice. We picked out a few frames for the pictures we had picked up and then decided it was time to head back to the GF.
They enjoyed the pirate adventure. They did a scavenger hunt to find clues, which led them through the hotel to a treasure chest. They divided the treasure equally. They each came home with a goody bag of treasure. They were also given lunch/snack. It was P Band J, a rice crispy treat, a drink, and some other snacky type food.
We had decided to go back to MGM since I really wanted to try WWTBAM, and DH wanted to do a few other things. Also, DD5 had to ride TOT one last time before leaving.
We went to the GF bus stop where we had our only wait for a bus. Buses for every other park came and went at least twice before someone stopped one of the bus drivers and demanded to know where the MGM bus was. I read a lot of threads about Disney transportation, including one that wanted to know why the WL had to share buses. If I had paid to stay at the GF, I think I might have asked the same question. Some of the people who were waiting told us that every time they wanted a bus, they had to wait at least 20 minutes, and it was usually already full when it got to them.
The GF is really beautiful, and it does have monorail transportation, but it seemed a little too stuffy for my family. I am not sure my kids could be themselves there. Also, for all the extra money you pay to stay there, shouldnt they get their own buses?? (But, I digress).
We got on the bus, and worked it out so the kids could sit. When we got to MGM, I grabbed one of the time sheets and noticed that we were just in time to catch Buzz, Woody, and Jessie. We headed straight to the part of the park where they were. WE waited about 15 minutes to see them. DS was thrilled that Buzz paid him so much attention. The girls were happy too, they each got their own picture with their favorite character. Then we did Muppets. We sat right up front and the kids thought it was neat when the Muppet guy came out. By this time, it was lunch time, and the kids wanted to eat at Pizza Planet. DH and I werent too keen on this idea, but we decided rather than eating at two different places, we would just eat. The pizza was just okay. I liked the crust. We then decided to head to WWTBAM. We had to wait awhile, so we went on the backlot tour. It was so cold they were not having families do the pre-show, but they demonstrated it . WE then made our way to our trams. This ride has changed soo much from when we first went on it when it first opened. It was okay, not great, but okay. The new Motor action thing looks like it will be great, they were rehearsing as we went by. That stadium looks HUGE! The kids enjoyed catastrophe canyon.
By the time we were done with the backlot tour, we got in line for Millionaire. They had already picked the 10 to sit up front, but that was okay. I really enjoyed this show, and wish we could have done it again. I did not even make it up on the board, but am determined to the next time I go!! Dh thought it was fun too. The kids enjoyed pushing the buttons.
When we were done with WWTBAM, we headed for the picture shop to check out the pics of the kids with the characters. We bought them all! It was getting pretty late in the day, I think around 3pm, and we had not even been swimming yet! (Just kidding, they didnt even ask, it was too cold.)
WE were planning on going to MK for the evening EMH hours. I wasnt sure how the whole wrist band thing would work, and wanted to make sure we got them in time. We also wanted to see Wishes one last time.
