Return to the Madness: Part 11 3/3 Day 7: Time to go home blues, but not really.

Cast:
Me: Obsessive Disney Planner, Disney Commando in 12 step program learning how to do Disney with kids!!!
DH 30- Loves Disney as much as me, but content to sit at the pool and watch the kids…
DD6- knows everything, or thinks she does
DD5- loves everything, especially if it is pink
DS4- loves Buzz. We call him Stitch, he is messy and destructive, but very cute.

We got up today, after a quick pack up the night before. I had laid out clothes for everyone, continuing with the layer theme. Today was VERY COLD, and I knew we were returning to snow, so we all ended up in pants, long sleeves and sweatshirts. We were not getting picked up until 3:30pm, so we had a good amount of time to do some last minute stuff. My voice had finally come back, mostly, but now I was starting to feel sick. I hate to admit it, but I was actually GLAD to be going home! DH was tired from a full week, and was looking forward to sleeping in our own bed. The kids were excited to go home as well. Shouldn’t we have been sad to be leaving??

We had breakfast at Whispering Canyon, said goodbye to our favorite waiter Sean, and headed off to the MK. We had to do Buzz one more time. DS loves it, and Dh was determined to beat DD6’s score of 900,000! (It was really eating at him!) We took the boat over, the wind was really cold. The kids were even complaining that they were cold. This from children who I have to force to wear their winter jackets in a snow storm at home!! Once we were in the park, it hit me that we were really leaving, but somehow, I still wasn’t too sad. What was wrong with me? Back to reality, and I am happy about it??? We did Buzz..Dh didn’t even come close to DD6’s score from the night before. She was so proud, although she has no idea how she did it! We then headed over to Pirates of the Caribbean. We rode the Jungle Cruise, Aladdin, and Pirates. Then we got DD5’s hair wrapped. (DD6 had done it a few days before at the pool, but they were out of pink so DD5 opted to wait.) Then it began to sprinkle. DH didn’t want to get soaked since we didn’t have clothes to change into, or a room to do it in, so we decided it was time to say goodbye to MK.

By the time we got back to WL, it was about 2:30pm. We grabbed a quick lunch from roaring forks. At this point I was not feeling well at all. The kids were starved and ate everything we put in front of them. We took our time, and when we were done, it was about 3:15pm. We went out front, I gave bell services our card, and told them our driver should be there shortly. He arrived right after I said that! They brought us our luggage, and we were on our way to the airport.

We checked in at the curb, and they were able to change our seats to row 2 and 3, which was awesome. All I can say, is thank God for those TV’s in the seats! (We flew Jet Blue). The kids were entertained, and I was able to get some rest.

We landed on time, and were met by my mom at baggage claim. It was a great trip, but it was good to be home.

A few notes:
We got towel animals everyday, in both rooms. The kids thought it was great. The Lodgekeepeer thanked me one morning for having clean children. I laughed, because I thought she was joking, but she told me she appreciated that I kept the rooms pretty clean. She said I wouldn’t believe some of the messes she’s seen! I tried to tip her everyday, and added extra when DS had a few accidents. (He was so tired at night, poor thing, he didn’t even wake up!)

Even though we had some height issues, we had a great trip! The only thing I will say is this. I am not sure that doing Disney every year is for us. I thought the kids would be so excited, although I had tried to prepare myself that they might not be. It was almost as if it was old hat to them. It just wasn’t as magical for them…they almost expected it. Does that make sense? (the word spoiled comes to mind, but it somehow doesn’t seem to fit). It was fun to be at Disney world, but all they wanted to do was swim. I think we will be waiting a few years before going back again. Our next vacation will be somewhere tropical with an ocean to swim in, and maybe a pool!

The time of year: I was concerned that it would be crowded. The first few days, a Fri, Sat, and Sun were pretty crowded. It was the end of President’s Week and it was about what I expected. We only waited in one line over 30 minutes. After that, though, things quieted down a lot. We never waited for more than 10 minutes for anything, except parades, and that is because I HAVE to have a good seat!! I would go again at this time of year. The weather was iffy, but no one can control that….it was better than a hurricane!!

We were glad to be able to try a few new places to eat. I just wish the buffets were not so much money. It adds up, paying for 2 adults, and 3 kids. The only time I really had a problem with it was at O’Hanna’s. DD5 ate PBandJ for $13.00. Oh well, the rest of us really enjoyed it! I had budgeted about 200 per day, and it worked out great. If I were to do it again, I might add in $50.00 more per day, depending on where we will be eating.

The kids are now talking about going back, but I think it will wear off soon. They had a blast, but really just wanna swim. (They have talked about the pool and slide more than anything.) I am sort of bummed that they are not Disney fanatics like myself, but I just can’t see going through all the planning, and paying! If all they want to do is swim. I think we will wait until DS is well above 48” before we go back again, maybe even 54“. (That way there won’t be any issues with his height.)

Thanks for reading!!

I have really enjoyed reading your reports! We have our first ever trip planned for May and I am so looking forward to it, reading your reports gives me a really good idea what to expect, what to do and not do! thanK YOU!

I enjoyed reading your family's story. Hope you are feeling better and don't wait quite so long (son being 54") ;) 'til your next trip!
Thanks for sharing :flower:

I think you were happy to be going home, because you really had such a great trip, and didn't feel that you were leaving with things unfinished! Thanks so much for posting your excellent reports! I really appreciate it when reports are written in such a great style! Some of them get so wordy and bogged down, that I can't get through the first page! Now get some rest and feel better! :flower:

Thanks for the great report.

I've been thinking about your kids' lack of awe and wanted to mention to remember that they are fairly young, and kids can tend to become a bit numbed when all their senses are being overloaded.

We took my son when he had just turned four, and I, like you, wondered why it wasn't a bigger deal to him? Over the course of the year, he would bring up the trip from time to time and I came to realize it did mean more to him than I thought.

This last trip, when he turned five, was better, and I think it's because he knew what to expect and looked forward to it and embraced it. He had some favorite things he looked forward to returning ot.

I've always thought 6-8 would be the ideal years to take a child, and look forward to seeing how my kids react to WDW at 8 years old. I think that will be a prime age, when they really "get" it.

Anyway, thanks again for the great report!
