Just wondering what is up with Hojo and thier claim to offer retro rates. If you have checked their site lately, there are NO retro rates offered for the next entire year!! Zip....Nada..... Does anyone know if this happens regularly with them? In the past, it seemed like there were always a few dates offered, but they have nothing through June 2013!!

They did have them until semi-recently. We booked our rates with them for October in early May, and even then, they were running out quickly. Just have to hit it right.

They also seem to add dates that werent previously there periodically.

Good Luck!

You just need to keep checking back.
So far, they have only released dates in 2013 for January and February (which seem to have all been booked). I imagine some time soon, they will release some spring dates for the retro rate.

ya to me its becoming a thing of the past....either you check months and months out to make sure to get yours or else its not going to happen...i like hojo a lot but you can get a much better rate at nicer places if you have to pay rack rate at hojo

They had some dates and then they filled up. I believe I saw on their forums that the reason there have been less dates is that the hotel in general is seeing more business. They only offer the rates when they expect high vacancy. It is a way for them to bring in some business during slow times.

It is frustrating if you are counting on the discount rate. Hojo's rates also do not fluctuate between on/off season like many of the other area hotels.

Just guessing that they are using the retro/ENT/AP rate to sell 5-15 rooms way in advance then at the last minute, like a week out, to sell what rooms are still unsold. Far from being a loyalty program for Hojo enthusiasts. Also not good for most guests that don't know if they can go in 6 or 9 months, and need to know they have a place to sleep further than a week before leaving their home.

I just booked our rooms last week and she told me they were almost gone for Feb. This is our first visit so I'm not sure how it works or how many rooms they offer but they are still out there.

There were dates through June (we looked at April dates but decided on January before I go back to school), they just got booked. I think the whole Retro Rate deal is wonderful. It is hit and miss, but so are most things in life. You can always book a refundable rate (I don't book non-refundables) somewhere else and switch if something opens up. I'm sorry you can't get the dates you want right now. I know how frustrating that is.

To take advantage of the Retro Rates you have to plan ahead and check the site often and book as soon as you see your dates available.

I booked at the end of may for our early November trip.

Check every day! I booked our June vacation there and originally only 3 of our 6 days were offered, but gradually, they all became open and they allowed me to get the rate. I think the last day opened up the day before we began our stay there, but I have even heard of people being able to get the rate after they had already checked in and one of their dates came open at the last minute. That being said, we did enjoy our stay there, but I would never stay there if I had to pay rack rate. It is clean and a decent place to sleep, but there are nicer hotels at the same rate.

With Hojo it is best to watch 9 months in advance at least...they open up retro rates up to a year in advance I believe. It is for when they predict low attendance and then the closer it gets they open/close pretty quick. You have to watch every day and once they open call STAT! Call In-House Reservations DIRECTLY.

We booked our October rooms in January 2012! They had most of October open when we booked so we were able to book 9 consecutive days!

Good hunting!:thumbsup2

I booked Nov early this year and when we booked last minute in June was lucky enough to have the rates open up. We have been happy there.

I just consider it market forces at work. Right now they have enough business to warrant more limited retro rate dates. While I know it is disappointing that the rates aren't as readily available as they used to be, as a member of a largely entrepreneurial family, I'm always happy to see a business that appears to be thriving.

Like a previous poster said, if your dates are out a ways, book a refundable reservation -- there's a good chance that some or all of your dates will become available at the retro rate if you are ready to snap up the few rooms that open up at that rate.

I booked our October retro rate dates back in January. We weren't able to get all 8 nights from the beginning but I watched the board diligently & eventually got them all. :)

At the beginning of the year there were a lot of dates, all except the busiest months, but they went fast. Definitely have to plan ahead to get them or hope some open up last minute.

Thank you everyone. We will just keep checking back and hopefully some pixie dust will blow our way for the retro rates ::surfweb:

I have been on their website and don't understand how to check on the retro rates, can someone give me some advise?

Not an expert by any means but from reading threads I think this is the link

http://www.boards.hojoanaheim.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=14

That is the correct link. They update that about weekly, or so I've been told. You can call and book your dates and then keep an eye on that link to see if they post the discount.

They have also told me you can just call them on Monday or Tuesday to check. If you prefer to talk to a live person every week. Their reservations person is super friendly.
