Retiring to Disney

See everyone there in 10 to 15 years. That's our plan. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. We will keep our DVC membership and use it accordingly.

Wow what a dream! to spend 2 months in the dead of winter at DVC!
I met some folks who sere sopending 6-8 weeks at DVC in the winter. There seemed to be at least 2 different 'plans'.
The first is that (crazy to me) plan where you check in on Sunday and check out on Friday morning to stay offsite to save points and then check in again on Sunday!:confused3
The second was to just stay in a studio the whole time. Tight quarters but doable.
I have long been spoiled by the space in a one bedroom at OKW and that would be my ideal. But the problem is that I would have to ship all my projects etc. down to help me while away the time when I was not at the parks.:confused3
Well if my lottery ticket would only come through there wouldn't be any problem!!

DH would move right now!!! We have plans to move to FL after my Mom is (how do you say it nicely?) no longer with us. She refuses to move to FL with us now, eventhough I know she would love it. We have talked about working at WDW, I'm just not sure what I would like to do. One of the things that pop into mind is serving popcorn in one of those popcorn carts! I just love WDW popcorn! I might want to work front desk at a resort, just not a Value! Too many people and screaming kids!!

DH has been looking at housing near WDW. I told him we have to live close enough to be able to drive to WDW and enjoy walking around one of the parks in the evening.

Oh, we'll keep our DVC, then when someone wants to come to visit, we'll book a stay at a DVC resort and they can stay at our house!!!

That's our plan.

I can personally vouch that working for Disney does NOT diminish the feeling, it improves it. I was a CM there as a college program person and I still get goosebumps everytime I see the Castle. I think I have more of an appreciation for the CM's and how everything runs!:cutie:

Good to hear. Our daughter is actually considering the college program for next year.

DW is the one who is concerned that working there would diminish the magic. I still think that retiring there is the plan. I know that we will want to continue to work, at least part time and what better place to work!

And of course, we would keep our DVC!

Well only 17 years or so to go.

The Ginn Reunion resort is a DVC on steroids -- possibly something similar to what you saw in the Northeast. www.reunion.com

We looked into Reunion a few years ago...please be careful. We did not buy in, but know many people who did and Ginn didn't live up to it's end of the rental deal. currently, Ginn is dealing with a lot of litigation concerning properties in reunion and elsewhere.

Would love to retire to WDW, but don't know if DW will go for it. She wants to be around the kids.:rolleyes1 What I really need to do is bribe the kids to get jobs in Orlando.:woohoo: Then I'll be livin large with the mouse, and the wife of course. At the least, we have committed and are looking forward to using our points in the winter and are planning an add on when BLT is announced. Those extra points will mean more time for "us".:cool2:

We are not working there but the last 2 years we have spent the entire month of February in a studio at SSR and the next week in an Inn room at VB. We still have points left over and we are able to survive in a studio. Much better than winter in WI.:cool1:

We need someone with some knowledge and math ability to work out the numbers...
buying nearby vs renting nearby vs DVC for TWO months in the winter

I will kick it off:
1) To stay in a ONE bedroom at SSR for 8 weeks in January and February, it would cost you about the following in points: 1664 (ouch!)
2) To stay in a STUDIO at SSR for 8 weeks in January and February, it would cost you about the following in points: 840

Can anyone continue the math for me?

right now renting - because of the economy some of the home owners are hurting.

you can get a 3 to 4 bedroom house for $695 to $795 a week.
