Rethinking purchase?

Is anyone else rethinking a purchase or selling DVC because of the closure of PI? I had my heart set on purchasing for over a year, and now that I have secured the funds, they're closing the most disney experience out there, The Adventurers Club. I know there is plenty more to WDW than a single experience, but it means so much to so many people. It was such a blow to hear about it. I never thought I would reconsider something that I've wanted that much, but it's quite a bit to think about.

I think it depends on what's important to you as part of what you expect from DVC.

If you were set on SSR because of its proximity to PI and now PI is gone, does that negate what you liked about SSR? If so, would another resort be appealing to you?

We own at AKV and although the animals are nice, its not the only thing I like about AKV. I actually prefer the remoteness of it, I love the restaurants, I like that it has a dedicated bus route, I like the upcoming additions (new building, new pool, new restaurant), etc.

If I purchased there solely for the animals and then they were suddenly taken away, I probably wouldn't sell right away. I would continue to try the other DVC resorts and just see how much of a hassle the 11 vs 7 month booking windows played into things. Luckily for us it wasn't just one thing we liked about our home resort that made us purchase.

SSR and OKW are actually my least fave resorts. I would end up purchasing 2 contracts. One at BWV because it's our fave resort and we would need the home booking advantage for Dec, and AKL because of the 100 pt minimum and much later expiration. Believe me, The Adventurers Club was NOT our ONLY draw to WDW. In fact, we only just discovered it within the past year. It just makes me think twice that they didn't blink about closing such an amazing disney immersive experience, and that they could continue to do so in the years to come. We definitely plan on taking trips to wdw at least once a year for the foreseeable future, but that future could change if they keep making decisions like this.

Does anyone know if PI was actually a Disney-owned attraction? Aren't most of the DTD venues 3rd party lease-holders?

I wouldn't give up yet. There's a lot of speculation that Disney will build/open a new "adult" destination and re-open The Adventurers Club there. NO guarantees this will happen, but it wouldn't surprise me.

I certainly wouldn't give up on DVC because of this, JMHO :goodvibes

As stated above, and if I remember correctly, Pete had said on the podcast about a month or 2 ago, that there were rumors that AC was going to be moved elsewhere, maybe AK, but again, just a rumor.

Not because of PI, but as of lately member accounting is making me crazy!

Not that we would actually sell, but part of me is sitting back going "why on earth did I join only to get this much trouble with it" the other part is going "geez I've had so much luck with my reservations so far (even changing to a different size room 2 weeks out) this is great"

My biggest reason for believe they will make a new adult entertainment area is purely business & competition. Universal has City Walk, Disney has to have something to match up. PI used to be great, until they built West Side. That was the beginning of the end for PI :sad2: It was very difficult to have an adult/bar area smack dab between 2 family oriented shopping & dining areas, especially since there was no easy way to go around it without walking thru the parking lot.

I don't know where they'll build it, but I'm sure they will build a new PI :goodvibes
