I'm preparing my Resume for position I really want in pharmaceutical sales but I don't really have a lot of work experience. My experience has mainly been working with kids, 10 and under. I have a pretty good shot at this job because I have a few contacts there but I still need a great resume to submit to the big man. Any suggestions? Should I exaggerate my skills or be truly honest?

Thanks! :sunny:

Keep it brief and easy to read. Inflated material on a resume sticks out like a sore thumb. If you have "contacts" they are probably looking for rationale to hire you. Don't ruin it with a "sweetened" resume.

Keep in brief and one page.

Whatever you do , don't exaggerate. Imagine how embarrassing it would be if your potential new boss spent most of the interview asking you questions you could not really answer because they were things that you said you knew a lot about on the resume, but in actuality had no solid answers to give him.

Keep it as brief and factual as possible and stay honest.

Good luck!!

If you have no experience in sales, you are better off listing attributes you possess that would make sales an appropriate career choice for you. Things like:

Assertive
Persuasive
Work well in a team environment, as well as independantly
Goal oriented
Perform well under pressure

When you go for an interview, you must sell yourself. Any good sales manager doesn't go into an interview with a list of questions to ask... they (we) simply want an interviewee to sell themselves. Confidence is key.

Never lie on a resume. It always comes back to bite you on the butt! I just had my resume done with the help of a professional coach, and she also said that the old "one page" rule is not necessarily a requirement anymore. She said that if oyu have 20+ years of work eexperience (as I do) it is difficult to keep it to one page and still give the reader a clear pciture of what you know. Moist employers that are serious about hiring you as a candidate will read your resume thoroughly to see if you possess experience/characteristics that they are looking for.

I would agree that if most of your experience has been in child care and now you're looking toward pharmaceuticals, then it's better to focus on characteristics rather than experience.

No advice for you, but good luck, sure hope you get the position.
