I was listening to the radio coming into work this morning and they were discussing the resurgance of the restroom attendant. You know, the person in the restroom who squirts soap in your hand, hands you a towel and the like...

The majority of them on the radio didnt like them as they didnt like being "watched" so to speak, and didnt want to have to tip in the restroom.

I myself dont care...I dont tip them, I would much rather do it myself, but hey, they are offering...so why not.

So what about you? Any stories to share?

I wish I had an attendant last night :(

You hit a pet peeve of mine. ;) There is no reason I cant grab my own paper towel and I dont want to have to pay to be watched. If I know there will an attendant, I usually leave my pocketbook with DH so I have no money on me. ;)

A lot of theatres in New York have rest room attendants. I never tip them. I just don't think it's necessary.

I dont mind being watched going no1 but like to do no2 myself

:earseek: Pop Daddy! Did you really need to share that?

Many moons ago when I was in my 20's and going to nightclubs, restroom attendants were usually there. I never liked having them around.

I can grab my own paper towel, thank you. It's not something I want to feel like I have to tip for. I always felt bad for them, but I didn't like tipping them.

I am just picturing the guy holding the bucket in "History of the World"

LOL...ROTFLMAO....I agree with you on that one....I love that movie...That is a great scene...Unfortunatly for those who dont know, it is not soemthing that can be posted on a family site...

Restroom attendants make me uncomfortable.

The only place I've seen them is Planet Hollywood in Downtown Disney.......boy they really had a collection of perfumes and what-not to use in that place! :earseek:

I must agree because they make me uncomfortable also, however I also notice the restroom does not become a hangout nor a mess when there is an attendant. Some restrooms are huge and really do need an attendant to keep it well stocked and clean.

What about Duece Bigalow's Dad in that movie! That scene in the restroom was digustingly hillariuous! LOL

I have always seen it as a throwback to the days of servitude. I think they are ridiculous.

No thank you. I saw one in France and they just sat there and wanted money. They did nothing, but wanted a tip.

I always tip them a buck...I figure if they have to hang out in a bathroom for their entire work shift the least I can do is throw them a buck!! Who in the world would want to hang out in the bathroom all day listening to people go to the bathroom unless they REALLY need the money!! In the city a lot of places I go have attendants and I actually like them, the bathrooms are usually cleaner and you there is always someone there so you don't have to be worried about getting stuck in there with a deranged person....

One of our local Shopping Malls has them. I don't mind it so much since they are there to quickly replenish towels, TP, keep the place tidy, etc...They also had Baby Powder, Mouthwash, hand cream, and such. I don't mind handing over some change since they keep this particular washroom really clean. I think I would feel freaked out if the washroom wasn't as busy as it normally is.

The one time I was happy to see one was when I was pregnant and at the theater. When she saw me walk in the door with my big pregnant belly she held a stall for me. I thought that was nice of her.
