Restrictions of transferred memberships

Dear DVC Braintrust,

We have several DVC contracts and are thinking of transferring (i.e. no money/consideration involved) the membership of some of them to our children in the near future (i.e. 3-4 years), after they graduate college.

Does anyone know if the limitations placed on resale contracts (e.g. no Disney collection) are applicable to these transfers or if they retain all our original privileges (I know these privileges are "bad deals", but it's still nice to have the option!)

Information released when the restrictions were first announced indicated that transfers such as this would not have the limitations placed upon them.

All ownership transfers, whether by sale or gift go through ROFR process, meaning you have submit it to Disney. However, its only purpose when it is a true gift is for Disney to issue its standard waiver of ROFR which gets filed in the public records and thus shows that your transfer had any possible ROFR released.

I'm sure you realize the financial and other risks associated. As noted, you do have to do ROFR but it's rubber stamped for this situation. You'll need a new deed and have the ROFR and deed recorded. A better choice might be to add them to a contract rather than transfer it but it depends on your ultimate goal.
