although i have just lost 50 pounds this year i am still short (5'4") and pooh sized. i am still working on losing more weight and with some pixie dust maybe this wont be an issue? wishful thinking :rotfl:

me and my 7yo niece will be going to wdw in october so i am concerned about restraints and lap bars on rides. i rode an indoor roller coaster (w/lap-bar) at 6 flags with my nephew and because i was pooh sized and he was 8? i literally felt him starting to come up out of his seat and had to grab on to him for dear life so as not to let him fly out!! i have NEVER sat in the same seat with another child on a roller coaster again!! :scared1:

so, being that it is just me and my niece, i am concerned. will they let her sit in her own car? I am worried about the following rides:

Barnstormer
BTMRR
RnR (if she dares to ride it, cant remember the restraint system)
EE (again, if she dares to ride it, cant remember the restraint system)
any others?

Most of the rides you have referred to are a non-issue as they either a) do not have restraints to begin with (BTMRR) or b) have separate restraints for each guest (RnR, EE). I can't recall how Barnstormer works but as it is a child's roller coaster I wouldn't be concerned. It doesn't go fast enough for any real "danger" moments.

The only ride I can think of that has a shared lap bar is Splash Mountain. But considering there use to be no lap bar and it was only installed to keep idiots from standing up during the ride. There is no issue as the bar doesn't actually restrain you.

HTH! :goodvibes

RnR and EE both have individual restraints so you won't have to worry about those 2. EE is a lap bar and RnR is an overhead harness. BTMRR is a whole seat lap bar and I'm not sure on the Barnstormer (which has been re-designed as part of the new expansion and is now called the Great Goofini)...I think it is a whole seat lap bar but I am not sure. As far as worrying about safety, I really don't foresee a problem....I'm sure if Disney thought there might be a problem they would have you sit separately. I wouldn't worry if I were you...have a great trip :thumbsup2!

For the most part, restraints or lap bars are more to keep people from standing up then stop them from falling out. (Splash Mountain) Almost all rides with motion are governed by centrifugal force. It is a solid science and works because it has too. When they determined that lap bars were not enough they installed seat belts. Mostly that happened on rides with straight down drops (ToT) or rides that start and stop quickly (Test Track). Then there are the inverted rides that have shoulder restraints (Rockin Roller) and then just for deceitful purposes (Stitch).

If there was a danger that someone would fly on out, they wouldn't let you have anyone ride with you. They don't like lawsuits that much.

i remember that BTMRR had one lap-bar across all guests and that was the reason that i would have my son ride with his not so pooh sized father in the car in-front of me.

but thank you for the responses, hopefully i will lose a few more lbs and i will be more secure with myself to ride with her, i would just love to see her face!

I was a small child who rode lots of lap bar roller coasters with a much larger adult. I bounced around a lot, but never felt like I was going to fall out. It did make the ride seem more exciting! :goodvibes

At 7 she can ride alone.

EE has individual lap bars, no worries there. RnR has individual restraints, no worries there. No clue about Barnstormer.

Big Thunder, one lap bar. But she CAN ride alone at 7.

I never believed it when people said that kids started moving around so much on BTMRR, but then it happened with DS and DH. DH said that DS ended up almost entirely on the floor (this is at Disneyland's version by the way) while riding together last February. Scared the crud out of both of them. Now I believe other people when they say that. If you're really that worried, let her ride in her own ride vehicle.

As mentioned, EE and RnR are individual restraints.
She should be able to sit by herself on both Barnstormer and BTMRR (one bar across). That said, I have very Pooh sized thighs and have taken kids as young as 4 on these rides. And while the bar does not come down to touch them, there is absolutely no danger of the kids falling out. My kids always preferred riding with me instead of skinny daddy just so they could have more fun!;)

ROFL, u guys are great!

i was talking to my sis in law about my worries (it was her son that almost flew out of the roller coaster) - she didn't think that i should worry about it because of all the weight i have lost and has faith in me that i will at least lose another 20lbs before my trip in october, lol!

Good luck and congrats :), don't let yourself get discouraged if you don't, you've already lost an exceptional amount of weight for the year.

the air time is the best part! we always stop the bar before it goes all the way down if possible. Even if they lift up off the seat they aren't going to fly out of the car, if it was possible there would be a different restraint in place. Plus at 7 she is old enough to know to hold on if she doesn't like bouncing around.
Don't worry about it go on with her and enjoy!

I remember my mom telling a story about feeling like my younger cousin (think she was only four at the time) was going to fall out of the seat when she took her on btmr years ago. I took our two year old ds on his first coaster (barnstormer) last month and it only has one bar, but the seats are much smaller than btmr and I held on to him from the start, so I never felt like he was going anywhere.

Since everyone has already answered your question.... just felt the need to say

:cheer2: :banana::banana: Great Job :banana::banana::banana::cheer2:

Enjoy the rewards of a new healthy lifestyle!!!

First - Congratulations on your weight Loss. You go Girl.:woohoo:

If you go on All Ears, they actually have a picture of every ride and what the seats look like. This would probably ease your mind once you see them. My husband and I are both larger than "normal". We did everyride and didn't have a problem.

Best of luck on your continued weight loss and on your upcoming trip.

Im a big guy (6'3" nearly 300 lbs), and I've had no problem with the Disney rides. I usually ride with my skinny as a bean poel 6 year old, and we've never had an issue. Splash Mountain is a little uncomfortable for me, but that's mostly because my long legs and not my girth).

Congrats on your weight loss though - I know what a struggle is and that's a great accomplishment. Keep working !

this will be my 16th? trip to WDW so i do know what the rides/seats are like and i have never had a problem getting in and out of rides/fitting (another reason to LOVE WDW!!). its just the previous terrifying experience that i had that makes me scared to ride with a little one again.

thank you for the encouragement!!

I think there's a difference if you weighed 500 lbs and now you weigh 450, or if you weighed 250 lbs and you're now 200. (Great job, BTW)
