Restaurants that are better than in the past

There is so much talk about quality improving/declining and I thought this could be an interesting list!

I just returned from WDW and some old favorites weren't up to par, but two restaurants stood out to me as having improved the quality of their food - Cape May Cafe and Cinderella's Royal Table. CMC has added some fabulous desserts and now has a server issuing some fabulous chocolate lava cakes (minis). They added a hot beverage dispenser to use for the melted butter (less mess, less refills) and they added crab legs! The price was raised accordingly, it is important to note.

CRT was truly awful the last time we dined there. Everything tasted frozen/canned/processed. They offered a beef dish and wouldn't even let us request a "doneness level" but this time, the beef came perfectly medium and freshly cooked and I had a cobia dish with tomatoes and olives that was quite tasty. The salmon and crab cake tasted fresh and a great improvement from the canned-tasting soup I had last time. Overall, I thought these two places showed improvement.

I should add California Grill was still our favorite, consistently good! Yoshi is the best.

So, what places have you seen an improvement recently?

Biergarten. A very long time ago it was a TS with a menu. The menu was heavy with sausages and kraut and mashed potatoes. Then it became a buffet and didn't do a great job at first, still way too heavy on basics. But about 12 years ago it started being better each trip. Now I've always liked it, but now it's my second favorite after PTC. And I speak just enough German to get by there. My entire vocabulary, ein bier!

Thanks, DonaldTDuck! I'll have to add it to my list sometime.

Micca, I take it you think the popcorn tastes better? ;) lol

I could have written about my disappointments, but I thought this would be more productive. :)

Are we talking about just quality of food or service as well?

I thought people said the Wave was one of Dinsey's improving restaurants.

I was gonna say I've heard consistent good reviews on San angel lately, Also hearing better things on Maya grill as well since the menu change,

Whichever is good; whatever you all want to discuss :)

Although, I have a tendency to think of service as something that varies by server.

Not an improved restaurant, but a somewhat new one that I thought was excellant, Sanaa.

We think Hollywood Brown Derby has made major improvements in the last few years. Their Signature status seems to be making a positive impact on the food quality.

About 5 years ago, my husband's steak at Coral Reef was unedible. He's not a picky eater, and has never left a huge piece of steak uneaten on his plate, EVER. He said it had no flavor and was not appetizing. My seafood pasta dish was not that impressive either.

However, the last couple of years, my DD who has the appetite of a petit ballerina, ordered the steak two years in a row, and surprisingly finished every bite! It was delicious! Unfortunately for my husband, he has now sworn off beef because of a problem with gout. He loves their fish dishes. I had a pork chop a couple of years ago that was absolutely delish. We are looking forward to Coral Reef again this year.:cool1:

We are just back and had dinner at Akershus with our DD6. We had done this meal with her twice in the past and really were not impressed by the food. On those previous occasions, nothing was exceptional and the portions were very skimpy! On my last visit, I had the salmon and got a very small, very bland piece of poached salmon and one small side which I don't even remember, but I do remember that it all looked lost on the plate. DH 's meals were equally unexceptional. The only bright spot in it for me has always been the smoked salmon on the cold bar.

This year however, the menu items had been changed. I had salmon but it was at lest 4 times the size of the piece I'd had last time and it was very tasty - grilled with a mustard sauce. It was delicious! DH had a pork chop and was also very impressed! This was a meal we were not actually excited about going to, so we were very pleasantly surprised. I look forward to going back again in the future.

I'm not a big fan of Disney food. I think it's gone downhill in the past few years. However, the veggie platter at Tangerine Cafe was always good, and now is even better. :thumbsup2
