Hi everyone. We will be staying at Poly for the first time in April and was wondering if there were any restaurants we should try? What hotels are convenient to get to? We will be travelling with 3 young children so transportation will be an issue. Any help is greatly appreciated!

1900 Park Fare at the Grand Floridian and Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary are great character meals on the monorail line.

'Ohana is fun for kids, but the food at Kona Cafe is much, much, much better.

'Ohana is at the Polynesian and perfect for young kids. It's character dining with Lilo, Stitch, Mickey (and someone else... I forget).

If you want to take a monorail ride, the Grand Floridian has 1900 Park Fare, another character dining option (kind of random face characters at lunch and princesses and friends at dinner).

Then the Contemporary has Chef Mickey's - Character dining perfect for young kids (Mickey and friends).

If you want a break from character dining, you might try the Grand Floridian Cafe or the Wave. Then there's California Grill atop the Contemporary - they turn down the lights and play the soundtrack for the fireworks at MK.

The Poly is a very handy resort transportation-wise. Great choice. Have fun at WDW!

Only breakfast at 'Ohana has characters.
Ohana is still entertaining for dinner, just no characters.

Kona had the better food.

Even though it's a counter service location the Contempo Cafe at the Contemporary has a good number of foods to select from.

We stayed at the Poly in May 2007 and are staying there again this May.

On our last trip we did breakfast at Ohana which was great, but we didn't eat at Kona Cafe. We plan to have a breakfast there this trip. We're not big fans of the Polynesian and Asian flavors in a lot of their lunch and dinner items so that's why we're not planning another meal there.

We always eat at Chef Mickey's and we usually do that on our Animal Kingdom day since AK closes around 5:00 pm, we take the bus back to the Poly and then relax for a little and then usually take a quick monorail ride over to the Contemporary for an ADR around 6:30pm. We can even ride the monorail to MK after dinner to watch the parade and fireworks.

On our last trip we had the character breakfast at 1900 Park Fare. The food was good but it took a very long time for the characters to get around. We were there over an hour and at the end we were waiting 10-15 minutes after we were done eating for Alice and the Mad Hatter to make it to our table. They kept taking breaks every 10 minutes or so, so it took forever for them to get around. Because of that we would not go back there.

This year we are having the character breakfast at Ohana since it's right in the Poly and then we're doing the breakfast at Crystal Palace on our MK day. It will be a quick monorail ride to MK and the CP is not too long of a walk inside. We love the food and the atmosphere there.

What about over at Wilderness Lodge? The Whispering Canyon Cafe is great for breakfast. There's a lot of activities the cast memebers do for the children. And we've always enjoyed going to Trail's End Restaurant at Fort Wilderness Campground. It's a buffett style dinner. It's a good price and usually not crowded. You can easily get there by taking the monorail to Magic Kingdom, then taking the boat over to Wilderness Lodge or Fort Wilderness. The boat ride is very enjoyable as you get great views of MK and the surrounding resorts so bring your camera!

We stay at the Poly as well and always have a dinner at both 'Ohana and Kona Cafe.

If you are willing to spend a bit more (or use two TS credits if you are on the Dining Plan) we have eaten at California Grill a couple of times and enjoyed it as well. Next trip we are planning to try the Wave which seems to get decent reviews.

It is also pretty easy to pop over to the Magic Kingdom and eat at the Crystal Palace or walk over to the TTC and take the monorail to Epcot where a whole world of dining opens up to you.:thumbsup2

Within the resort both Kona Cafe and 'Ohana are quite good. I think Kona has slightly better food, but at 'Ohana the food just keeps coming and the dessert is unbelievably good. The atmosphere is fun as well (sometimes children are invited to join a "coconut race").
