My family and I are planning our first trip to DL.

After reading many reviews, we will probably end up staying at the Howard Johnsons.

I wanted to know if there were any restaurants within walking distance of the hotel, not including the ones in the parks?

Thank You. :wizard:

Mimi's Cafe
Mc Donald's
IHOP
Denny's

There are a few more but I can't remember their names right now. I'm sure others on the board can help with their names. The ones listed above are all 2-3 blocks from HoJo's.

My son is so picky. His favorites things to eat are pancakes, french toast and grilled cheese.

So Dennys and Ihop take care of that.

I can get him to eat chicken nuggets at McD's.

Looking at restaurant menus in the park, could not find a single place that offered grilled cheese, so those will help

Thanks again :goodvibes

I've heard on here IHOP is really outrageous in pricing. Millie's, right near McDonald's is another good inexpensive place to eat. Don't confuse it with Mimi's.

Going to look them up :goodvibes

Millie's looks perfect

Reminds me of Bob Evans. Not sure if you have those restaurants out there, but looks just as good, if not better

Thanks for everyone's help :thumbsup2

That looks perfect for us.

I have a feeling we might eat there almost everday

Thanks for your help:goodvibes

When you order from Mimi's keep in mind the meals are enormous!! plenty for 2 people to share and they don't even charge to split the plate for you! It's only ever the grown men who manage to eat a whole meal to themselves there, we ladies and the kids always share. They have the most amazing banana bread they give you in the bread basket, we always take that back to the hotel to have with our coffee in the morning! I CAN NOT wait to be back there...dare I say it...NEXT WEEK :cool1::dance3: staying at Hojo's and eating at Mimi's.... :santa:

I would suggest you avoid the IHOP (way overpriced, we would have spent LESS in the parks!) and the Captain Kidd's, I don't care if the buffet is cheap, the food is gross. We ate there once, never again......I'm surprised I wasn't sick from eating there.

Mimi's is excellent, huge portions, great food, good prices and they will do take out for you. Millie's was good too, large portions, good food, good prices. McD's is standard but there's no value menu, they have a very very small dollar menu and you have to look really hard for it, it's tiny off to the side and almost hidden. LOL The Denny's is very good and they have good prices, just basic Denny's prices. :) Enjoy!

I know everyone has said it already- but I just cannot say enough good things about Mimi's! The food is always delicious, the portions are reeeeaaaally generous, and it's close enough to the Parks that you can walk so you don't have to deal with parking! :thumbsup2

I love it!

We preferred what we had at Millie's over what we had at Mimi's. Very different items, but that was our experience.

Walking home to HoJo one night we stopped at Millie's and got mac and cheese, garlic bread, and a side salad. Fed one ravenous 4 year old and two semi-hungry adults, for under $12 including tip. Still very warm when we got to the hotel.

Hubby got artichoke dip and something else to go from Mimi's and it was cold by the time he walked it home. Had lunch there, veggie burgers and grilled cheese, and the service was great but the food was just "meh".

Wine Country Trattoria has grilled cheese!

And yes, as everyone has said, IHOP near the park is just about the most expensive IHOP you can find.

Do NOT go to Captain Kidd's! That's the prevailing wisdom across all Disney message boards I'm a part of.

Might want to take one morning to get a Mickey pancake for your son at RiverBelle Terrace...

I've heard on here IHOP is really outrageous in pricing. .

Really ?? No..... Ok so we are from Australian and all eating in the US is cheap but we found IHOP to be great value and surprisingly good quality. Of course when we were there they had a kids eat free deal so that helped but we enjoyed it and thought it quite reasonable.

Of the others we loved Mimis - sensational it was .

We were warned off the buffet Capn Kidds before we got there so didnt try it thankfully.

Its also an easy walk to the Garden walk and we ate at Bubba's and CPK quite reasonably priced too and of course Downtown Disney ahs some great eateries too

The IHOP is absolutely outrageous with prices. We went during the Kids Eat Free promo too, we had 2 kids and 2 adults, the kids were free so we were only paying for DBF and myself, we ordered standard food, no appetizers, no desserts, just entrees and drinks and out total was over $50!!!! NO WAY is that standard pricing.

WOW...that is nuts

I will definitely be avoiding IHOP

Wow - sorry not our thoughts at all - one time we had the omelette thingy ( quarterback or something ) another time we had the burgers with the sliced beef ( absolutely yum !) and we found it very reasonable . We were also surprised with the quality - we thought IHOP was going to be well , pretty crappy , but it surprised on several fronts.

Each to their own I spose.:goodvibes
