We are visiting Toronto this summer and staying at the Renaissance at the Ball Park. Does anyone know of some good, family style restaurants nearby? We aren't into fancy places but ones similar to a Ruby Tuesday's or Outback. Also, a deli, pizza, place, or Chinese restaurant would be good too. Thanks.

Marche Movenpick (by Richtree) in the BCE building (Hockey Hall of Fame) on Yonge, is a family favourite. It has just about anything you could ask for. Wayne Gretzky's is also nearby.

Mr. Greenjeans at the Eaton Centre is another. There is a Food Court on the lower level in the Eaton Centre.

Pickle Barrel, which is on Yonge just North of the Eaton Centre, west side. There is also a Red Lobster.

There are a bunch that are on Front Street, just east of where you are staying.

If you head up north on Spadina, you will hit Chinatown. Just west of Chinatown, is what is known as Kensington Market, where you can find a lot of different ethnic places. A fun place to shop too!

East of where you will be staying, past Union Station, there is the St. Lawrence Market which you will also find a good variety of little shops and restaurants. Shopsy's Deli is that way also.

As for good pizza downtown, not sure but Pizza Pizza is edible.

I would recommend Milestone's (a chain restaurant). There's one on John Street just down from the Roger's Centre near the movie theatres. They have a children's menu with items for around $4.99 I think. It includes beverage and ice cream sundae dessert. Might be a bit more upscale than your typical family restaurant.

There is a Lonestar across the street from where you are staying - good fajitas and quesadillas. You are in a touristy area so there are LOTS of places to eat. If you go up a block from Front Street (which you hotel is likely on) you will come to King Street. There are tons of places to eat as it is also teh theatre district a little east of your hotel. Any of the 3-4 east/west streets up from your hotel (you can't go down/south becuase you will hit an expressway) are great for eats - of all kinds. And good for strolling and taking in the sights. If you will be staying over a weekend and want to go for a nice walk, head down front street east towards yonge - you will see the Fairmont Royal York hotel -really nice old hotel, Union Station, the Hockey Hall of Fame, Humminbird Centre of the Arts, lots of neat shops, and finally the St Lawrence Market - a great indoor/outdoor farmers market with tons of food and produce - sausage on a bun mmmmmm.....

I also reccomend the Pickle Barrel Grand restaurant. Good food good prices what more could you ask for. If you get a milkshake is is absolutely humongous (sp?) and it is pretty cheap big even to shre with 3 people. Lone star cafe is also ok but a little more pricey I think

Jack Astor's is a must in my books :)

It's on Front Street, just a short walk away from where the Union Subway Station is, as well as the Fairmont Royal York Hotel.

Their food is absolutely fabulous, the environment is fun, and their pan garlic bread is worth every single calorie!

Wow... everyone above almost used up all of my suggestions. The one at BCE Building (at the Hockey Hall of Fame), Marche is good! One of my favourites.

I second the recommendations for Lonestar and Pickle Barrel.

Regarding the other suggestions... Milestones is a personal favourite but I find is kind of pricey and doesn't work well with kids (lots of fusion foods). I love going there for drinks but don't like it for a meal.

Kensington is good... if you have lots of time to browse and walk around. This can be found on Kensington and Augusta Streets. St. Lawrence Market is a pretty far walk from where you are staying.

Anything at Fairmont Royal York is really pricey. They have a super-fancy afternoon tea for $30 pp though, if that interests you.

On Front Street, I recommend Joe Badali's... nice Italian place. Or one of my definite favourites, Armadillo!!! :cheer2:

Everyone said all my suggestions, but I have one more to add.

There's also The Old Spaghetti Factory. It's a great family type restuarant with good food and good prices. I work in the area and go there frequently. For atmosphere you can eat in a phone booth, in a merry go round or an old trolly. It's really neat. It's on Esplanade which is a block south of Front Street. (blocks away from union station.) Just turn south on Scott St, from Front street. It's directly behind the St. Lawrence Centre (you can't miss it, it has huge ads for hair :hippie: all over the building... it's right beside the hummingbird)

If you serach them online you can pull up their menu

The Old Spaghetti Factory is a must!! The kids will love it and the food is fantastic!! Definitely one of my favourites!! :thumbsup2

Thanks everyone for the resturant suggestions. They all sound great and I am looking forward to walking around and finding these good places to eat. Part of the vacation fun is finding good food!

Just a quick hit of nostalgia.....anyone remember 'The Organ Grinder'? Used to be right beside The Olde Spagetti Factory. I used to LOVE it there as a kid. My parents would take about 8 little girls for my b'day - god bless 'em LOL!!! I suppose as an adult it would have compared to Country Bear Jamboree with food - but as a kid it was bliss.
