Restaurants if Staying Off Site?

Looks like we're going to be canceling our cruise on May 7th and doing a land-based vacation. Long story short, I had a heart attack recently and my doctor feels that being in the middle of the ocean right now probably isn't the best idea in case any issues arise. We're staying off site at the Four Seasons. I would have rather stayed at the YC CL but they were all booked up since we're changing our plans relatively last minute. The YC was great for walking to Epcot and eating in the World Showcase and having the CL Lounge, but being offsite is going to make dining a little more challenging in terms of managing reservation times, etc. if trying to eat at Disney restaurants.

What are some recommended off site restaurants? We have no problem eating at the hotel, but with a 10 night stay the few restaurants they have, albeit very good, may get tiresome.

Why Cancel your Cruise ?

They Do have a small Hospital on board as well as a Doctor & Nurse .

They have a helicopter Landing area on deck ... if needed

You will be fine & well taken care of .

Yes, but they aren't equipped to treat a heart attack or stroke on board. As a doctor myself, I understand that the one thing that is most important in dealing with either one of those conditions is time. I already had to be transported via helicopter to be treated the first time, but that was a five minute flight. Potentially having to wait for a helicopter to get to the ship and then return to an adequate (usually a US-based) treatment center is not ideal. I already know of a few people who died on ships from heart attacks because they couldn't get the appropriate treatment in time. It's a risk I'm not willing to take right now. In a few months to a year maybe that will change, but even from an anxiety standpoint it would be tough to enjoy myself knowing the timeline if something does happen to go awry. My family can have a great time in WDW and have a good hospital system nearby if anything happens to go wrong.

We love eating off site. My favorites are more budget oriented. My favs:
Sweet Tomatoes - we just love the salad bar restaurant at Crossroads.
QKenan - a great little Venezuelan place near the Publix by the mall on Vineland. Love their homemade cheese and sandwiches made with sweet plantains for the "bun".
Benihanas on Intl Drive - their teppan dishes may have too much salt. I always get their lunch boat with julliene beef or teriyaki salmon, 8 pieces of sushi/California roll, salad, miso or onion soup, shrimp/veggie tempura, edamame and white rice for only $12.50 at lunch.
Columbia in Celebration - I always get their 1905 salad with half a Cuban sandwich or black bean soup for lunch. YUM (you must love garlic).
Cafe D Antonio - I've had good Italian here. Love the rack of lamb and calimari. I hear there is a great seafood place in Celebration too (Celebration Town Tavern)
Thai Thani - has ok Thai food
Seasons 52 on Sand Lake Rd - good, healthy options, nice atmosphere
Hot Crust Panini on Sand Lake near Whole Foods - awesome sandwiches at casual sandwich shop using fresh and homemade ingredients
Seito Sushi - just north of Sand lake. Everyone raves about the sushi.

You can always try to walk up at the Boathouse at Disney Springs (make sure to see the boat collection in the back on the water).

Make sure to stay hydrated in the heats and enjoy your trip!

There is a hospital in Celebration just south of 192 a close drive from the parks.

You can rent bikes or take a Segway tour in town before or after lunch. They have rocking chairs by the lake. It's a nice place to spend an afternoon or evening.

Thanks for the info. I'm familiar with the hospital situation. My heart attack was a few weeks ago and we decided to spend time at YC shortly after. We were walking around Disney Springs and I suddenly felt a constriction in my chest and couldn't breathe. They rushed me to Dr. Phillips hospital where I had another catheterization to make sure my stent hadn't collapsed. Luckily it was just a side effect of one of the medications they put me on. But at least I know that there is a good support system in the area if I need it.

Sorry to hear about the change of plans, but it sounds like you have an awesome "plan B" trip in the works! @schumigirl and her husband have eaten at a lot of tasty looking offsite restaurants that look more akin to what would be offered at the Four Seasons than some of the budget options frequently discussed here (not that there's anything wrong with the budget options, but sometimes you are looking for fine dining!). Check out her trip reports (linked in her signature, but you can start here: http://www.disboards.com/threads/another-18-nights-rpr-just-the-two-of-us-hhn-2015-trip.3455228/)

I also found a lot of places to put on my wish list in this thread about upscale restaurants: http://www.disboards.com/threads/upscale-restaurants.3481742/

Happy planning! We also love the YC but I would absolutely "settle" for the Four Seasons ::yes::

Have you considered a drive trip to change things up a bit? We love wondering through Harry P Leu Gardens just north of Orlando. From there, we head to Winter Park, an adorable upscale village with old Florida charm. There are so many great dining options there. We love 4 Rivers Bbq. A visit to the Morse Museum to see their amazing Tiffany collection is a must.

The worst part of that trip day is the drive up I4. The drive is always quite stressful. Saturday morning traffic isn't as bad as during the week.

We like Chevy's Mexican restaurant that is right down from Disney Springs. The food and drinks are really good! I also really want to try Fogo de Chao Brazilian Steakhouse off International Drive even though we are at the Poly this year.

I love our cruises but I would take 10 days at the four seasons over that any day. Have fun!
