First time visiting ...any suggestions on which restaurants to try and which ones to avoid?? Thanks.

Agree with Indiana Jones, Rule #1 when visiting the Disneyland Resort, DO NOT EAT AT Captain Kidd's (located at the Best Western Plus Park Place Inn and Mini Suites on Harbor).

Presuming you are staying with walking distance to the DLR, I like Mimi's Cafe, Panera Bread and The Pizza Press on Harbor.

At the nearby GardenWalk, I like The Cheesecake Factory, Roy's, PF Chang's, CPK, Bubba Gump and Mc Cormick and Schmidt's.

In Downtown Disney I like Wetzel's Pretzels and the Earl of Sandwiches.

And do I need to remind you for Rule #1 again. If you forget rule #1, make sure you know the answer to Rule #2, before your trip, figure out which Hospital and Doctors you can see with your health plan in case of emergency. Yes, it is THAT bad, gets the worst reviews I have even seen for a restaurant on Yelp and other places. If they didn't have a prime location, and an influx of new customers, it would have been out of business years ago. Nobody is a repeat customer.

Steakhouse 55 at the Disneyland Hotel is good. You can make a reservation online.
Rainforest Cafe has a fun atmosphere, but the food is average and a bit overpriced. We still go there anyway because of the fun atmosphere.
Uva bar in downtown Disney was surprisingly good.

I've never had anything amazingly outstanding in the parks, but am most happy with Rancho del zolcalo, Bengal BBQ, Paradise garden Grill and Smokejumper's grill. Jolly Holiday has a good salad with the same name.

Avoid Captain Kidds buffet AT ALL COSTS.

OMG, we were staying at the Best Western there last weekend every time we walked by and saw people actually eating in there we would just say "those poor people". Why don't people check Yelp or Google or something first for reviews? It has 4 stars on Facebook reviews, I can't imagine where those people usually eat to give Capt Kidd's 4 stars.... trash dumpster?

Add Ruth's Chris to fine dining options, and there is a Benihana about 3 miles away if you're driving, less expensive than Ruth's Chris (but what isn't?).

There are two Denny's, one across Harbor from the parks, and one a mile down at the corner of Harbor and Orangewood. Denny's is Denny's, but you'll know what you are getting.

In the park, I love Cafe Orleans. Other than that, we've always done Counter Service.

Off property we enjoy The Cheesecake Factory or PF Chang's at the Garden Walk.

At DTD we enjoy Earl of Sandwich.

If you want to enjoy a cool adult beverage I recommend trying Trader Sam's at the DLH....we tried it for the first time on our last trip and had such a good time that we are going back again next week when we are there.

The only thing good about captain Kidd is reading the yelp reviews for a laugh, although the # of people who get sick is horrible.

Of the places I've been to
I liked carthay circle, and storytellers cafe.

I also like getting Mickey Bars.

are you asking about where to eat inside the parks?
are you looking for table service or quick service or character meal ?

Ariels Grotto for lunch is a neat character experience if your group likes princesses. i have also heard (but never been there myself) that Minnies breakfast with characters at plaza inn is great. many different characters at this

for a first time visit i recommend the blue bayou table service resturant in disneyland. its a bit pricey, but its a very unique experience. the resturant is inside the pirates of the carribean attraction.

Many people like the Fried chicken at the plaza inn for lunch and dinner. (Quick service)

For snacks there are the skewers at the bengal BBQ, or the Corn dogs from the little red wagon.

Read through the menus for CS and TS restaurants at DLR on allears.net. That will help you find food items that interest you. Once you find something you want to try, you'll know where to go.

Ralph Brennan's at Downtown Disney. Their popcorn calamari is amazing. And the kids meal chicken was the best kids chicken ever.

My favourite restaurant at DL.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Staying on property so will probably take advantage of all the downtown disney suggestions.

Blue Bayou for the experience & Cafe Orleans for the food in DL.
Earl of Sandwhich for a quick bite at a reasonable price in DtD.
Carthay Lounge for an adult cocktail, Alfresco Tasting Terrace if wine & appetizers are your thing & (newly crowned my favorite after my last trip) Carthay Restaurant for AMAZING food in DCA.

We loved the Blue Bayou at DL and plan on eating there again during our next visit!

Love:
Napa Rose
Carthay Circle
Alfresco Tasting Terrace

Hate:
Cafe Orleans

We have had decent meals at Blue Bayou and terrible meals at Blue Bayou but you cannot beat the ambiance!

We have done breakfast there many times (upstairs, included with BWPPI) and never had any complaints. Sometimes it's crowded, but that's it. The food was fine, equal to the breakfast at PVI minus making your own waffles.
