For my first post, here are my comments on my Jan 2006 trip.
Canada Restaurant- Dont get the hype. 3rd trip there, 3rd time having an excessive wait after our time, 3rd time with marginal service although it was better than past trips. Food was ok, very salty, nothing special. The steaks were good enough for the price but nothing more. The bread was fine, I saw a number of comments about the pretzel like bread, again I dont get the hype, its basically the same as the frozen pretzels as I get in the grocery store and microwave for my kids. Not bad at all just nothing special. Probably wont return next time just because Im tired of the wait every time to be seated.
Coral Reef- First time. Pretty good. A pleasant surprise. Only negative was a longer than reasonable wait to be seated (20 min maybe). Good service, good size portions, well prepared. Dessert was excellent. Having a good table probably helped up my opinion.
Flying Fish-Excellent restaurant, one of the best at WDW and my favorite. Great atmosphere if you dont mind the bright lighting and noise level which I dont. Maybe not the place for a romantic dinner but then I have seen what appeared to be just married brides and grooms here before.
Blue Zoo- Equal or better then the FF in all respects except I prefer the atmosphere in the FF. The Blue Zoo is a bit dark. However the service was top notch, better than the FF, the food was excellent, the appetizers and desserts were particularly outstanding. The bill was about the same as the FF.
Yachtsman Steakhouse-Great attentive service, maybe the best waiter we had on the trip. I have found the food here to be hit-or-miss, and this trip was the same. Some items great, some not so great. I do like this place however.
Rain Forest Cafe- TGI Fridays in fancy duds.
Spoodles- No complaints but nothing special. The above venues are tough acts to follow.
I guess my advice is this if you are going to spend 175$ in Canada (which we did) you may as well spend 250$ (which we also did, and more) and go someplace really good, or just eat fast food. Its hard for me to justify the midrange restaurants since they are not really mid range in price and they fall well short of the better dining venues in terms of service and quality.
Note to Canada fans, my flame retardant suit is on.
