I am going to be at WDW for three days in Spetember (17-19). Since we don't have a lot of time we will be park hoping a lot, but I wanted to try the Sci Fi restaurant in MGM and maybe some other places around the resort. I don't want to make reservations for the restuarants since I don't know where we will be when and I don't want to have to go out of our way to make a reservation. My question is, is it easy to just walk into a restaurant and get seated or to even call for a same day reservation? I don't plan on doing any character dinning and it will just be 4 adults. Thanks!

I wouldn't exactly say "easy". Actually it maybe impossible in some places. Is that during the free dining promotion?? If so I'd say it's a good bet that you won't be able to walk right up and be seated. You may want to consider making a reservation for Sci-Fi if it's a must do. That way you won't be disappointed.
Good Luck!

I would recommend making an ADR for Sci Fi. Everything I've read seems to say that it's a popular one. We went & loved it & were thankful to go right to our table past the lunch crowd waiting!

I tried making some of our meal reservations today including the drive in.
It along with alot of other places were not available for us going the last week in Sept. So I would make them then try and change them when you are there.

It is getting harder to just walk up to any restaurant in the park and get seated now. If there are places you want to eat at, it is best to make an ADR for them otherwise you may be eating at counter service locations.

When is the free dinning program starting? That will make a big difference in my reservation plans. Maybe I'll just make a late reservation for Sci Fi to guarantee that we make it so it won't be a huge inconvenince. That is one restaurant that I really want to try, but if something else isn't open it won't be the end of the world. How far in advance can I make my reservations? Thanks!

Welcome to the DIS :) ADRs, or whatever Disney Dining is calling them nowadays can be made 180 days in advance. Your dates fall during the free dining promotion , which starts 8/13, and runs through early oct. , I believe. If there are any restaurants you feel you really would hate to miss out on, I would say call now. Be flexible about your dining times, and you may have better luck. Sci -Fi is a fun place to eat :)
