Restaurant Recommendations

Have you thought of doing BB for dessert only??

I really want to take DH & DS since they've never been but no way in the world would DH ok spending that much on 1 meal. So I'm going to shoot for a late evening dessert- should be fun!

Two other restaurants that we enjoy for the mood/ambiance are Rancho del Zocalo and Hungry Bear. Sit off to the left hand side of Rancho and you will literally be right next to BTMRR. DS just LOVES hearing the ride zip by as we eat & of course catching glimpses as it flies by. For Hungry Bear, go down the stairs and sit by the water. Super peaceful. These restaurants don't require reservations & price is much more affordable. Food is decent too.

We wanted to like CC much more than we did. I think it needs to get over the pretense and improve both the food and service.

I had the pappadelle with chicken meatballs. Meatballs were dry & too spicy for my taste. But most annoying was my inability to get some grated cheese for my dish. Our server was laughing it up with a table of heavy drinkers and his "helper" was too busy making sure the square plates were perfectly lined upon an unoccupied table. Finally got her attention and then she "forgot" my request. by the time the cheese arrived, the pasta was cold.

The place is beautiful but the food must step it up for the price charged.

I highly reccomend Paradise Garden Grill at California Adventure. I think this is my favorite place to eat out of both parks. They have chicken, beef and vegetable skewers and you can choose from four different "sauces" to accompany your skewer. I got chimichurri, which was olive oil, spices and garlic I believe. Each plate also comes with Greek veggies, rice and pita bread.

It's around $10 for a plate and SUCH a good deal, considering all the food you get on your plate! Here is my plate when I went a week ago:

the pizza and pesto ravioli with pine nuts at the boardwalk were also quite good.

Can I do big thunder ranch dessert only?

You can order dessert only at Rancho del Zocalo. Big Thunder Ranch BBQ is a separate restaurant around the back near the little walkway that links Frontierland to Fantasyland. You need reservations to eat there, and it is an all you can eat BBQ buffet-lots of meats, corn on the cob, baked beans and cornbread. It's a fun experience, but I think it is pretty pricey per person. The desserts you order separately and last we were there, they had a huge strawberry shortcake to split between the table or a giant cookie with ice cream on it. Since you order those a la carte, I don't see why you couldn't go just to eat those, but you'd need a reservation and need to specify in advance that you only want dessert. When we went a couple of years ago, as soon as we were seated, the food just started arriving. In other words, they just assume everyone is having the bbq.

I personally love the food at Blue Bayou. I have only eaten the crab cake entree, but it is absolutely delicious. It is served with yummy mashed potatoes that are almost like au gratin and have a bit of a spice to them. Maybe a touch of horseradish? The meal is served with salad and bread, and these are both good, too. The service can be a little questionable.

The Cafe Orleans is also one of our favorites, but the menus are basically completely different with the exception of the original monte cristo sandwhich, which can be ordered at either restaurant. However, Cafe Orleans offers the all cheese monte cristo, which is my preference and is so good, especially if you like brie cheese. You will definitely want to split the monte cristo! Other options at Cafe Orleans are the pommes frites (an appetizer but a huge portion and good addition to any meal). These rival any fries we've had anywhere else, ever. :lmao: Also, the salad with cheese and walnuts and raspberry dressing is very tasty. I highly recommend either place, but they are completely different.

Thank you

Hey DL123, :wave2: Thanks for your comments! I was concerned the two restaurants were too similar, having never been to either. Think I may have to try both. YUM! :goodvibes

Unfortunately the last time we checked the answer was no, you cannot go to the BBQ and only get dessert. :( The cookie is to die for but with only DBF and myself it's too much for 2 to share. BUT we did find out that DBF and I can do the BBQ and the kids can eat at the Golden Horseshoe and then we can order the cookie for dessert and the girls can join us, so we can order the cookie next time we go, they can just join us and share with us. :)

The potatoes at BB are not mashed (unless they've changed them in the last month), they are thinly sliced and prepared an au gratin style, but the neat thing is even though they are similar to au gratin they are gluten free, so my BFF can eat them. lol :)
