Restaurant Recommendations

Our best meal was the most spontaneous one-at the Concourse Steakhouse in the Contemporary-the food was the best of anywhere we'd eaten in all of WDW. Love Chef Mickey's, too!

this is the one where the children scream... a lot, right?

Well, I don't know about a lot... depending on the current activity, kids might be making some noise. They do have people riding around on stick horses, and if someone asks for ketchup, the server will yell for it at the top of his/her lungs... and every bottle in the restaurant will be brought to your table. :)

BTW, we loved the concourse steakhouse, too, but it is now closed (or is about to be closed).

You didn't like Ohana's food? That one is frequently recommended as having great food... we've only been there for breakfast, but thought that it was a definite "do again".

Boy do I miss the Counter service Tusker House. It was the best.:sad1:

We never miss our ritual arrival night of pizza and beer at FW, Crocketts Tavern. Next door or in the same building is Trail's End, some of the best buffet on property for our money. O'hauna's, not really our cup of tea, meat not really done and takes forever, the last 2 times we gave it a shot, for servers to come back to your table. Last meal, no one came back, ever, told management and they want to comp us tickets for another meal, we said no thanks, just wanted to inform you of the lack of service and would not be returning. Hoop Dee Do get a vote too for us, never miss it on our trip, food is good, all the drinks you can hold and a show thats top notch for us no matter that we've seen it millions of times.

Jiko - We had great sturgeon once,
Ack! These fish eat off the bottom of the lake. They only place you can catch them is Fond du Lac, Wisconsin and some place in Germany.

Boma is getting rave reviews across the board from every source I've seen. Tokyo Dining is also supposed to great. Haven't done these, yet, but plan to in our upcoming trip. As far as personal experience, I'll always love 50s Prime Time just because of the fun interaction with the staff. As far as the food there, it's comfort food, mainly, and my husband hates that kind of food, so if you're like him you probably won't like it much apart from the atmosphere. I personally love a good pot pie, so I like the food.

It's been a while since I've been, but I try and eat at different places each trip. My apologies if anything below is slightly outdated.

Animal Kingdom
Ditto on Flame Tree BBQ. One additional note about the seating areas: we found a very empty, nice seating area down by the water. At the time, Expedition Everest was still under construction, and we had a great view of that. We enjoyed the food too.

Magic Kingdom
Columbia Harbour House for some chowder in a bread bowl.
Pecos Bills, complete with a "fixins bar."

Studios
I went to the Brown Derby only once, and that was because it was probably our worst experience with Disney service, ever. However, I do remember the food being very good, and I'm willing to give it a shot again on a future trip -- we probably just had a server who had a bad day.
We booked Hollywood and Vine on our last trip for the Fantasmic package, and I was actually pretty impressed with their buffet (although I know others may not agree). I thought the selection was pretty diverse and tasty.

EPCOT
We have eaten at quite a number of places. Bistro de Paris stands out in my mind.
We really like the food at Norway. They had quite a few options for not-so-adventurous eaters.
San Angel Inn has a great atmosphere. We liked the food, but we haven't been there in many years, and it seems that some of the more recent reviews are not so good.
We liked the atmosphere at Coral Reef too, but I can't remember much about the food.
For counter service, I thought the Boulangerrie Patisserie in France was a great find. I also enjoyed the Fish and Chips counter service for a snack.

Resorts
Love Boma in the Animal Kingdom Lodge! Next time I want to try Jiko.
Artist Point in the Wilderness Lodge is a favorite of ours.
California Grill offered a great view (we happened to be there during the fireworks), and great food, but can be pretty pricey.
Beaches and Cream in the Yacht Club is a fun place to go. I thought their burgers were quite good!
Grand Floridian Cafe is a nice place for lunch.

Downtown Disney
The only really good meal we've had in DTD was at Portabello Yacht Club. We had a good meal at Captain Jacks a REALLY long time ago, but it seems to have changed since then.
We had BAD meals (mostly service related, but food wasn't all that great either) at House of Blues and Planet Hollywood.
I like Earl of Sandwich for counter service.

I second, third, fourth, or whatever for BOMA!!! :thumbsup2 I LOOOOOVED the carrot soup, 3 bowls, and I HATE carrots!

I also really enjoy 50s prime time, Le Chefs du France, and Wolfgang Puck's had the most amazing pumpkin ravioli. YUM!

OOOOH I forgot Crystal Palace. The corn spoon bread was awesome!

Ack! These fish eat off the bottom of the lake. They only place you can catch them is Fond du Lac, Wisconsin and some place in Germany.

thats not true. There are sturgeon in a lot of rivers in America. As for bottom feeders, that si true....but so are shrimp! ;)

We didn't have a bad meal our whole stay... for food our favorites were Brown Derby, Coral Reef, Jiko, Boma, and of course V&A's, GF Cafe was nice... character breakfasts at Hollywood & Vine, Tusker, Crystal Palace and Norway were perfectly edible, as were the dinners at CRT, 1900PF and Garden Grill... Hoop de doo was a hoot. If I had to pick a disappointment on the dining front, it was the Whispering Canyon, where our party of six that evening were sat out in a sort of side room that wasn't even a room, just a raised part of the lobby, away from the main dining room and all the fun and games.

I'm a Disney "veteran," but for some reason I always end up at the same restaurants. I can actually list the ones still extant that I've visited over the last 25 years or so:.

My suggestions are Crystal Palace befor the park opens, this way you'll have almost all of Main St. and the Castle to your selves for pictures! ;) Besides being in the park before it's open has an amazing feel.

Ummm, I would certainly go to Coral Reef especially if your planning on celebrating something special PM me and I'll fill you in on what they do, you can't beat seeing all the sea animals while you eat. Their steak is really good! And dessert is waaay good.

One of my favorite Resorts to eat at is the Grand Floridian (this was the biggest suprise of our trip), breakfast is really good, (dinner is just as awesome!) it's always good to get ADR's about an hour and half before they close, the crowds thin out and the characters will give your table more one on one time. The food is unbeatable, for dinner as well. If your at MK I suggest taking the boat over and then you'll come in at the back of the resort, this will give your party a chance to see the beauty of the resort before you eat.
They also have a wonderful High tea, you might not be into it, but maybe others in the party would, it doesn't cost a lot and you'll be full for sure.

I love, love, love, Bomas! This place had wonderful atmoshpere, great foods to try, and wonderful desserts! If you have a chance you might want to make ADR's for an early evening on your AK day the park closes early anyhow, and take time after dinner and walk around the resort, it's beautiful, you won't be disappointed. Besides you might get to see the animals.

You do not, I repeat you do not want to miss having dinner at Ohana's, make your ADR's for a night when wishes is happening (for about 8) and ask for a table near the window. If your not able to get it for then, then I would hit the beach and watch it from there with a drink. I hear the lapu lapu is pretty darn good! (hope I spelled that right)

I would skip Hollywood and Vine for sure! Sorry if I offend anyone, this is just gross, not clean, bad food, and very bad service.

If you like seafood, Cape May has a pretty good buff.

Down Town Disney has a great sandwich shop, Earl of Sandwich. Very good sandwiches! I was impressed, and I'm not usually impressed easily when it comes to food.

Hope this helps! ;)

Put me down for Garden Grill at Epcot (love the atmosphere) and Brown Derby at Hollywood Studios.

Jiko - a truly wonderful experience at the AKL. A popular choice is the filet with zip sauce, macaroni and cheese - it's good, but try something more adventurous instead. We had great sturgeon once, but I'm wondering if that was a daily special. Either way, start with the tomato, cucumber & red onion salad - amazing. With a watermelon vinaigrette...mmmm....

The Brown Derby, in DHS - one of the most underrated restaurants in WDW, in my opinion. I highly recommend the porkchop. It's served with red wine braised cabbage and smoked fondue cheese; very, very good.

Kona Cafe - not necessarily spectacular, but I really enjoyed it. If you're a coffee lover then it would definitely be worth the trip over to the Poly.

Jiko was probably are best meal at WDW. I also had the sturgeon and it was fantastic. We were at AKL 10 days in Dec. 06. Beautiful resort and after dinner there is an outdoor area with a large fire pit with chairs all around. Great place to relax with an after dinner drink.

Ooh, let me agree with Trails End at Fort Wilderness. It's great! Great selection. Great food. Reasonable price. One of my family's favorites. We always make a point to go here no matter which resort we're staying in. Fort Wilderness has some great activities, too, such as petting zoo, horse riding, hay rides, and a campfire with chip and dale.

I'm happy to say that in two trips, we've yet to have a bad experience at any of the WDW restaurants. Some of my personal favorites:

50's prime-time -- the pot roast is so yummy and I just love the atmosphere

Earl of Sandwich -- If you're at DTD, you should try it out. Chances are, it'll be packed, and there's a reason for that.

Whispering Canyon -- love the antics, but the food was also really good.

Hoop-dee-doo -- Not really a restaurant, but the food was surprisingly good and plentiful

Liberty Tree Tavern -- hard to get a seat here, but I think it's well worth the effort. The atmosphere is really cool, also. And the food is served family style, which I love.

So many great places to eat I am sure I will miss something!

Kona - Great for any meal, but especially breakfast!

Citricos - so underrated - this might be the best restaurant in Disney!

Columbia Harbor House - extremely crowded but good CS meal at MK

Le Chef de France - my pick for best at EPCOT

Todd English BlueZoo - a short walk from Epcot to the Dolphin gets you a gourmet meal in a funky atmosphere

Boma and/or Jiko - both of these restaurants at AKL are excellent!

Bongos - DTD's huge pineapple has good, not great, food and a fun atmosphere

Boatwrights - It has been six years since I have eaten breakfast there, but it was one of the best I had ever had in Florida. Don't know how things are recently though.

And don't forget to get a funnel cake!

Ack! These fish eat off the bottom of the lake. They only place you can catch them is Fond du Lac, Wisconsin and some place in Germany.

Not true. I'm from the sturgeon capital of Michigan - Onaway. They are in many of the colder fresh water lakes in North America and Europe.

That's where Russian caviar is from - sturgeon.

As for good restaurants...for counter service, we love Columbia Harbour House in MK and Tangierine Cafe in Epcot.

TS meals - Kona Cafe for dinner was amazing, LeCellier is always good, and we had a very good dinner at Concourse Steakhouse - but as mentioned above - they are closing shortly.

Since this thread is really about Restaurants at parks, resorts and everywhere.. it's really a better fit on the Restaurants & Dining Board.. which is where you'll find it from here on out!

Thanks~!
