A girlfriend has recommend "Trellis", but other than that, I don't have clue. Would appreciate any input. Thanks.

There's always McDonald's....you know, food, folks, and fun! ;)

There are the neat taverns there. Chowning's, Kings Arms, Shields, Christiania Campbell's tavern just to name a few. My DH and I went on our 1st anniversary. We had a blast and can't wait to go back when Matt is older:)

Does your family like seafood?

I'm not a big fan of buffets but Captain George's has an awesome seafood buffet.

I agree with your girlfriend! We often make the drive from Fredericksburg to Williamsburg just to eat at The Trellis. YUM YUM YUM ::yes::

But the taverns are also nice choices. Anything else we have tried in Williamsburg is just like everywhere else we ever go. :)

I really like Kings Arms tavern in colonial Williamsburg, Captain Georges is also good.

For something fun and different try Rosie Rump's Regal Dumpe dinner theater. The food was just slightly above average but the show was great! Get reservations early though!

Look for something with "Ye Olde..." in the title. You can't go wrong!;)

Didn't eat at Kings Arms, because I felt the atomosphere was a little more formal. I've heard great things about it.

However, everyone in our travel party enjoyed Christiania Campbells. The staff dress in period costumes, and they talk in old tongue. Our waitress played along and asked us if we see a certain character in Col. Williamsburg, tell him that he owes the tavern some money.

(edited because I can't spell)

the Trellis is great. I'm a huge fan of the taverns. Shields, Kings Arms, and Christiana Campbells. Some don't care for them, but I do. love the atmosphere, the food is good, the people are friendly. I'll never forget our last visit a year and a half ago. My son was only 13 months old but we were visiting my sisters in MD and VA and decided to take a quick one night trip to williamsburg. we went to Shields early and they were awesome. my son started getting fussy towards the end. DH took him into the foyer while I got the check and their was a strolling violinist who started playing twinkle twinkle little star just for him. He loved it, snuggled in and calmed down.

we've had many romantic meals at the taverns pre-babies, but this is probably my favorite memory. :)

I once ate at a "Ye Olde 7-11" and had a Go-Go Toquito...it made me sick!

;)

If you are looking for a good place for lunch, try The Cheese Shop. In the back of the store they make wonderful sandwiches on homemade bread. They were a huge hit with our whole family.

DD went to the College of William and Mary, so we were always looking for good places to eat. The Trellis has good food, but the service always seems to be slow. I would still recommend it highly, if you are a chocolate lover, they have a dynamite dessert called "Death by Chocolate", they also serve great spicey Bloody Mary's. Cheese shop, recently expanded, has very good sandwiches and is right across from the Trellis. The two taverns that I have been to are Kings Arms and Christiana Campbells and have loved both of them. Two other suggestions are the Whaling Company and Le Yaca. Le Yaca is pricey French food but it is excellent with a romantic atmosphere. Whaling Company serves consistently good seafood.

There is a bbq place called Red Hot and Blues...it is sooo good. I also agree with the poster that talked about Captain Georges, that place is also scrumptious!

I wasn't that crazy about the food (or prices) at The Trellis, but the desserts - oh la la!!! The Death By Chocolate Cake is a must! I read the recipe for it one time, and trust me, you wouldn't want to make it at home - too much time and costly ingredients. I think it has 1,356 calories per slice, so if you're on a diet, this is pretty much the only thing you can eat all day.

If you like the Cracker Barrel, there is one in W'burg. If you like seafood, a lot of people swear by Captain George's.

Do not ever, ever , ever , ever eat at the Jefferson . It is disgusting and stupidly priced. It was by far and away the worst meal I have ever had in my life at a restaurant.

We ate at Trellis last July when we went to bush Gardens. It was good, but we thought the waitstaff a little on the "snooty" side. The Death by Chocolate was great though. But my kids wouldn't eat it, ( stuff touching...sigh) so I got it boxed and we walked over to Baskin Robins and I ate it there! The kids got plain ice cream we DH and I ate our fancy dessert. We got a few looks! But hey we did buy ice cream and my dessert was just too good to wait to go back to the hotel!!

Thanks on the input. Looks like I need to go hungry. :)

I am NOT a seafood eater but I like Captain George's, if not for the food definitely for the atmosphere. But it's pricey - $25.95 for adults.

There's a whole slew of restaurants along Richmond Road - IHOP, Friendly's (actually good food and GREAT ice cream), some steak houses, just tons of places to eat. Another good place is out by the Pottery Factory (just keep driving on Richmond Road (east I believe) and you will hit it - the Candle Factory Restaurant. Good home cooking and very reasonably priced.

If you enjoy Chinese there is a good place (family) in Williamsburg. I don't remember the name, but if you pick up any guidebook, there will be a huge ad for the Chinese restaurant voted best in Williamsburg for the past xx years. It is in a strip mall behind the Dairy Queen.

If you eat in, it is menu or buffet. We ordered carry out the first time and I can only say the MuShu Pork was some of the best we have ever had. The kids loved the steamed dumplings.

We ate in one night for the buffet, and I was fairly impressed. Not a huge fan of Chinese buffet, but it was very good. The kids more than ate their price in steamed dumplings alone.

We were there for 10 days and you can only eat so much authentic "tavern" food.

We did have a nice lunch in one of the Taverns in Colonial Williamsburg. I'll have to look up the name.
