Restaurant recommendations please!

Haven't been to Disney in years. We are going next week. We enjoy good food and don't mind paying for it. I would love restaurant recommendations at MK, MGM and AK or at any of the resorts. We are not staying at a Disney resort though. Thanks!!

Hi Molly41! I just responded to your other character meal post as well. In the parks you are visiting, I would recommend:

MK - Liberty Tree Tavern for sit-down and character dinner, or Cosmic Ray's for counter service and a GREAT burger
AK - Tusker House (this is a counter service restaurant with very good food!)
MGM - Hollywood Brown Derby - both the food and atmosphere here are EXCELLENT!

i know you must be so excited to be going back to wdw! You didn't mention having a particular budget so here are a few of my family's favorites:

animal kingdom - pizzafari - good counter service (great italian sandwich)

magic kingdom - we generally don't eat here but casey's hot dogs is good

epcot - yakitori house in japan for counter service (eat outside by the waterfall if it is warm enough) or cosmic ray's

mgm - toy story pizza for counter service
if you are in downtown disney, try earl of sandwich - great soup, salad (95 cents each) and tasty sandwiches

if you want sit down meals, we like :

epcot - le cellier, chefs de france and germany

magic kingdom - we don't do a sit down dinner here - you can take the launch over to grand floridian and eat at any of the places there then walk around or try kona at the poly.

animal kingdom - we have friends who really like tusker house

mgm - both brown derby and prime time are good choices

we really enjoy boma and then roaming around the lodge (fire pit, animal watching, etc is a nice way to end the evening)

palio at the swan/dolphin is good - they have roaming musicians while you eat that play disney songs (their pizza and salad can be ordered for a lighter meal and is very good)

portobella and wolfgang puck (downstairs) at downtown disney are also good

so many choices!!! good luck and have a wonderful time.

there are also good places to eat when you are not staying on site - we really enjoyed seasons 52, mings and pebbles

Artist Point at Wilderness Lodge
Coral Reef at EPCOT

Also, Flying Fish usually gets great reviews. We are going to try it on our next trip. California Grill and Blue Zoo are also supposed to be excellent.

Sci-Fi Theater at MGM. You'll need PS. We went in May; they were the BEST burgers, shakes, and onion rings! DH and I agreed it was our favorite meal that trip. It's really cool inside, too! You eat in a car.

We just returned from a Dec trip. We liked Whispering Canyon Cafe at WL. We loved dinner at the castle and dinner at Le Cellier in Epcot. Our old favorites include California Grill, Chef Mickey and Coral Reef. Our children love meeting characters but seem to love the characterless meals best. I guess they see enough characters in the park.

We love Jiko - the sit down restaurant at Animal Kingdom Lodge. They had great wine & food and our waiters have been very attentive.

We also enjoy Artist Point at the Wilderness Lodge. (Easy to get to by boat from Magic Kingdom.) Again, we have had some excellent meals at this one too.

The best in MGM regardless of price is The Brown Derby.Ask for a booth and wait for it.It's worth it.The food is fine and the atmosphere is also.The Coral reef at Epcot is mediocre at best.The food at Japan in World Showcase for sitdown is really fine as it is in Le Cellier in Canada,also at the World Showcase.Most of the fast food places are OK at best.The California Grill at the top of the Contemporary is the best view and also some of the best cuisine in the park.Citrico's in the Grand Floridian on the second floor is also a fine meal.Ask for Jaimie to be your server.They are closed Mondy and tuesday.Enjoy and be ready to enjoy and walk off a culinary feast....MagicMaster!!!

The CA Grill on the top floor of the Contemporary is our favorite Rest. We will be there on the 15th - I can't wait. They have a barbequed beef filet that is great. My wife and I try to go everytime we are down there - (her parents live about 45 min. away so we can drop the kids and have an adult dinner).

Also, great view and try to go close to the fireworks time to see them as well.

My suggestion at the California Grill is to book well in advance and ask for a window seat and set and early reservation for a window.Now that it's wintertime the sunsets can be as spectacluar as the fireworks which soon follow.Order the butterfish if you are a seafood fan.It has replaced their legenday steamed halibut on a banana leaf with white rice and hong kong sauce.A flatbread(which they are famous for is and excellent starter) we love the portobello flatbread when the have it.The butterfish is excellent.I will try to attatch a pic from 12/13/05 of the sunset before the fireworks.Simply the finest view in the park and that helps make the evening unforgettable.

If you are planning on dining in the parks rather than the resorts...

MK I loved CRT for lunch, we had a table by a window and enjoyed a lovely MK view, the food was nicely presented, and while not a four star restaurant or anything, the service was good, food decent, atmosphere...great (and the youngest of us is DD 17)

MGM Brown derby is fantastic. I agree with everyone else.

AK I only tried Rainforest Cafe there......the service was good, food so-so.

Epcot: So many choices. The Morroccan restaurant...the sit down one is beautiful and features a belly dancer...

I would say that unlike many others my experience at Tony's Town Square was pretty awful. The server was the rudest man I've ever encountered anywhere... and he gave poor service... he never refilled drinks, would not bring parmesan cheese for my pasta...his demeanor actually changed when I told him we were on the Premium Plan, I guess he figured his tip was included so he didn't bother to be either attentive or polite...it was the only place during the week that I did not leave additional money for the server (above the included 15%)...and the food was not very good. Maybe had we not been on the premium Plan our experience would have been different. But it was the worst experience of our trip...it is now the family joke, the benchmark of bad...

Tony's town square is a stay away.The servers are mostly rude and the servers are sub par.We gave them a couple of chances and were consistently disappointed.
