Restaurant recommendations for London

Has anyone tried any of the Gordon Ramsay restaurants? Husband and I were thinking of trying on our trip next year.

My husband and I ate at Gordon Ramsay at Claridge's, which is now closed. It was delicious. My husband has eaten at Maze in the Grosvenor Square Marriott, and he said it was also good.

Hard Rock Café? TGI Fridays? Rainforest Café? You can find these in the US.

I suggest the local pub for fish and chips with a side of minted mushy peas and a glass of Real Ale. If you're lucky, they may even have Yorkshire pudding on the menu.

We try not to go to U.S. Chains, especially when traveling in Europe. But, DD and I did go to London's Hard Rock Cafe, because it was the first one, and because DD was homesick for some USA appetizers during her semester abroad! Lol

We went to Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in London on Hospital Street (I think). It was a great dining experience, albeit very expensive. Each of us had the 7 course tasting menu and the food was out of this world. The service was impeccable, and the staff was great with our son answering every question he had about Gordon Ramsay. They even gave him a tour of the kitchen after we were done. We made reservations 6 weeks ahead, and the best we could get was a Monday night at 9 pm.

You're in London -well known for Indian food options. Everyone wants to get into the Dishroom(up from Trafalgar Sq), but other options would be Punjab(short walk from Dishroom)or Rasa which is in the Marylebone area. Should find plenty of Veg options as well.

Cool! Thanks. We're staying in the Marylebone area, so I will definitely check out Rasa, and note the others! :)

We did Tom's Kitchen which has a few locations around London, ours was at St. Katherine's Docks. It so good we went twice.

Simpson's on the Strand or go to North Gower Street's greasy cafe - that's where they film the BBC's Sherlock series

I think we're already planning on the second one. I think that's "Speedy's", isn't it? One of the friends I'm travelling with is a Sherlock *fanatic*! :)

I'll check it out! What kind of food do they have?

Sayhello

I would say comfort type food, I had schnitzel, my husband had fish and chips on the first visit. 2nd visit was a burger for me and a scallop pastry pie (in large scallop shells) for my husband. The "chips" are very good!!!

A few recommendations for you if you're looking to treat yourself
  • The Ledbury - Amazing food in Notting Hill - I'd recommend the prix fixe lunch which is 85 GBP
  • High Tea at the Berkley - it has a fashion theme and plenty of food (it's also just up the road from Harrods if you're looking at doing some window shopping)
  • Heston Blumenthals Lunch is also in the area and is consistently good - they do a great priced set lunch for 38GBP!
  • Jamie's Italian - decent Italian food from Jamie Oliver - the polenta chips are a must do
  • or if you prefer diner style, Jamie also has Jamie's Diner which has great diner style classics with a twist

Ooo, thanks! I have a feeling these would have to be on days I'm on my own, as the others I'm traveling with are a bit more on a budget. But I particularly like the idea of Jamie Oliver's Italian restaurant. Sounds wonderful. The diner, too! Thanks!
