We loved the Blue Bayou restaurant and food but didn't care for how dark it was. Is there another restaurant that serves the same food (I go just for the Monte Cristo) but in a different atmosphere?

Cafe Orleans is also serving the Monte Cristo. As far as I know those would be the only two options.

Yeah, Cafe Orleans is the only one that comes to mind, although I don't know how much else is shared between the two places. At you have the option of eating indoors or out at Cafe Orleans, so that should be light enough for you.

Cafe' Orleans has the same gumbo as BB and also the Monte Cristo sandwich. Both just as good as at BB (and less expensive) :thumbsup2

Thanks everyone! Can you tell me where Cafe Orleans is? I take it that it is a quick service type of restaurant and that I won't need reservations, right?

Thanks again, everyone! Merry Christmas!

It is table service and right across the walkway from the BB. Whether you want/need PS depends on when you're going.

The location makes it easy for me to find! We're going during our Spring Break in April. If it is table service then I had better call soon for reservations! Thanks for your help!!

I'd definitely call for PS, especially during spring break.

We have eaten there three times, and each time it was full. One day there must have been at least 20 parties in "stand by line" who had no PS.

CO has two Monte cristo sandwiches the traditional and a three cheese sooo good :goodvibes

Cafe OrleaNS also has the delicious pomme frittes, which are a favorite of mine. We actually stumbled upon CO by chance. We were planning on BB, but the wait was too long. CO was right across the way, so we wound up there instead. The prices were much better and I got to try my first monte cristo, which I loved.

Cafe Orleans also has the best Gumbo and past poster said the Pomme Frittes are excellent as well as the Beignets, we had lunch that same day at BB and our dinner at CO's was soooooo much better, Service and Price!!!!

If you are only going to the BB for the Monte Cristo and don't like the dark atmosphere, then definitely go to Cafe Orleans instead. It's very pretty inside, and if the weather is nice you can sit on the patio.

On the most recent menus I can find, the Monte Cristo is only on the BB menu for lunch, and it is 21.99. The same sandwich (without the BB sides) is 15.99 at CO.

I asked at the Royal Street Veranda and she assured me the gumbo at BB is different, that you can only get it there no where else in the park. She seemed very sure of herself :confused3

Well next time I'm trying the gumbo there!! we were a bit disapointed in our last dinner at BB. so much so that even though we planned on going twice for dinner, we only went once :(

the Gumbo tasted the same to me at both places its just I think my meal was so much better at CO because of the service we recieved, but the food was excellent!!!!! we had the kids Chicken dinner, Monte Cristo, gumbo, Pomme Frittes and beignets for dessert it was for my 40th and that meal convinced me that CO is a must do every trip from now on maybe even more than once or twice.... :)

I much prefer Cafe Orleans now. BB has gotten just too expensive and the waits are too long. Even with "reservations" we have had 20-30 minute waits there. If you just want a Monte Cristo, I would totally go with Cafe Orelans.

Sorry to hear that, our has been the opposite. Never a bad meal and only once were we seated away from the waterside rail.

Oh our meals were not bad, never had a bad meal there. We always have an appatiser, entree and desert. They have stopped serving appatisers, and the one I always get is crab cakes, so I got them as an entree. It was too rich for a full meal, I could not finish it and of course you can't pack a crab cake around with you in the park unless you want food poisoning! We had reservations booked well in advance and still had to wait a good half hour, and that was after she said she could not find us at all! I phoned the reservation line, and by crazy coincidence got the same attendant I had when I called to confirm our reservation the day before. She got on to the girl at the front and suddenly she was able to find our reservation :confused3 The waiter was in such a hurry, he literally threw my husbands plate down in front of him, sent his cutlery flying...then the girl who fills glasses came by and reached across his plate to fill his glass, dribbling water on his dinner! Just a lot of little things that added up to being less happy than we have been in the past. Not the kind of service you expect for the price you are paying, nor the kind of service we've had in the past. That's not to say we won't go back, because we will! would not miss it!

WOW, we have never encountered that type of service. A few times we were seated 15 minutes in advance of our ressie time and never have neen hurried.
