Hi All

Need a restaurant after my day at universal, ideally not too far(staying at HRH), good for kids and reasonable priced. We already have down Logans and Cheesecake Factory.

Anyone have any good ideas?

Thanks

Try to visit a restaurant at City Walk. Get the water taxi there, great relaxing journey.

I would give Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville a visit. Also try the Kitchen at HRH, some nights they have visits from the Simpsons.

If you like barbeque...you must try Bubbalou's which is very close to Universal in the Kirkman Oaks Shopping Center. It's on the corner of Kirkman and Conroy-Windemere and an easy cab ride. The food is excellent and you got a lot for the money. Here's the website if you want to check it out:

I would go to any where at Citywalk, find prices similar no matter where you eat.
Like Metro said Bubbalous, nothing fancy but food is excellent and cheap, and planning visiting again this year

Jimmy Buffets Margeritaville is great, especially for dinner,
as after 6 they have dancing stilt walkers who make balloon hats for free!
and the food is great too. the best 2 meals of our last trip were here, perfect medium steak both times,

that said, if you cannot stand Buffets style of music, it might not be for you. as its on a loop!

we enjoyed Jimmy Buffets and found the prices to be surpisingly good.
I would recommend trying to get there before 5 though. We got there at about 4.45ish (I think - going from memory here) and walked into an empty place. By the time we had eaten - so less than an hour - the queue was out the door and they were quoting an hours wait minimum.

Excuse the bleary eyes, had just arrived and made my way straight to Margaritaville, got accosted by the balloon makers..

That hat is Awesome!

I forgot we waited an hour the first time, but you can book earlier in the day, before 6 and its dead, after six its a PARTY,

the second time we went, we booked in the afternoon while flitting between the parks, that evening we returned to the resturant, was told there would be a short wait. We picked up a beeper and walked down the stairs into the giftshop (about 4 steps), my dad didnt get off the bottom step before the thing went off!

plus if the volcano blows the fun really begins

How long are you staying at HRH? Just the one night, or for your entire trip? If just the day, then you really shouldn't go any further than CityWalk - there are loads of great options there and that's half the reason we stay at Universal hotels. Margaritaville is our favourite (but, we're Parrotheads) and we enjoy an adult evening there. Hard Rock Cafe is difficult to beat.

If you're staying for a week or more and you're looking for offsite options, I have tons of suggestions.

Hi All

Thanks for the suggestions, all of those sound great! i'll check the menus.

Debbie we're staying at HRH for 2 nights as part of a 20 night holiday(free dining for 14 nights).

Thanks all
Ruthie

Another vote for Margariteville but we found the Hard Rock Cafe better than expected. Many like Mythos at IOA but we didn't have a great experience there.

This time round we are hoping to try Pastamore at Citywalk; Pete on DIS unplugged recommends it.

Pastamore is excellent. always have a few meals during our stay there, DW loves their Chicken Marsala

How about Orlando Ale House - just outside of the Universal complex - fab meals, great atmosphere and really cheap too :thumbsup2

Their food is really hit and miss on the few times I've been there. I guess it depends on who's in the kitchen? Also...it can get very rowdy depending on what sport is being shown on the televisions and how much beer is being consumed. If you're looking for a good sports bar, check out Front Row (TGIFridays) at the corner of I-Drive and Sand Lake Road. The food is better and the place can get rowdy too but there are more families there so it's not as bad as the Ale House can be.

I must admit that I disagree - we were there last April and probably ate there 5/6 nights out of 14 and NEVER had a bad meal.
I agree the bar/high top area could be quite noisy if there were sports on, but the more restauranty area was always much quieter. The families with younger children seemed to be in this area and those with no kids more in the bar area.

The Ale House is on our list of "must eats" next year as DH loved it so much (And we never had alcohol there as we're not big drinkers either).

Good luck with whereever you choose :thumbsup2

One of the things we have come to better understand over time is that no matter how good a restuarant is it will alwys have its off days and have found that the server can make such a big difference......try them all thats what I say popcorn::, hang on maybe thats why I have I have another 42lb to lose :rotfl:
