We are interested in buying some certificates today and have a couple of questions about the way that they work. I see that each restaurant has it's own specifications about qualifying purchases, but if we place an order for 2 certificates, can we use them seperately on different days of the week? Also, would it be possible to grab 2 certificates where there is a minimum of 2 entree purchases required and just book 2 tales of two for 4 diners?

TIA for any help!

You can only use one certificate a month at a restaurant per person. However you can purchase them under different names, email, payment method, etc. and you would be fine using on different trips. As far as using 2 different certs. for 2 tables of two-if you are the same party, seated at different tables, the certs say no. But if you are seated separately at the restaurant then I would say it would be okay. If you ask to be seated together, then the restaurant can say no.

Can you purchase a larger amount certs instead?

There are quite a few of the Swan and Dolphin restaurants listed as well as the House of BLues....use the code EAT and they are 70% off!!! Make sure to read the restrictions. Can't take credit for this find. It was posted by someone else.

Give it a few days, and it will be 80%.

Thanks for the help!:flower3: We picked up a couple of certificates for our Dec. trip, but I'm confused about what the certificates say. They say that a gratuity discount is added prior to discount, but there is also a place on the paper where it says, "Please remember to tip your server on the full value of the guest check." Are we tipping twice if the tip is already added to the check? For example, if we spent $40 on food and the certificate says that we need to spend a minumum of $35 and the certificate is good for $25, how will that work out?

TIA, again, for helping!

Pay attention to the check when you get it. We have had restaurants add the tip, and some do not. If they add it, don't tip extra...well, unless you want to. They hold tight to the minimum amount needed to purchase...before tax, tip, alcohol and sometimes dessert. Whatever is left over from the bill after the certificate is applied you have to pay OOP. Kind of like a gift card or something.

On all the ones I've used with 18% tip required the check already has it on it. But do make sure when you get your check. I can see the logic requiring the 18% since some people may short the server the tip figuring it on the check balance, after the cert. is applied.

However, on a recent trip to SF we ate a a funky little fish place near Half Moon Bay and it didn't warrant a 18% tip. When I got the survey from restaurant.com I mentioned it. Just thought they would like to know.

Also, I don't know if someone has already mentioned this, but all of the certificates I have used from there do not include alcohol.

The rules for the certificates are 1 per person per month. If you wanted to use 2 in a week they would need to be purchsed by 2 seperate people.

You can't use 2 at a table or even separate tables. The rules prohibit that. It's one per party even if they are seated at separate tables.

Those are the general restarant.com rules

They there are rules that each restaurant imposes. If it does not exclude alcohol generally the certificate WILL cover it. If they do not specify that it's for 2 entrees you can use it for just dessert, appetizers or whatever.

This is from my experience. I really the restaurant exclusions carefully and I have had great luck with using them for the bar or dessert.

Good luck! I LOVE restaurant.com and I use them all the time.

Can I buy one certificate for myself and give to a friend for the same restaurant and still be able to use in the same month? We will be at the Swan/Dolphin at the same time.

Does "one per person per month" mean for one (or each) establishment, or does it mean in general?

Not if you purchased both on your account.

When you use the certificates, the restaurant has to verify it. When they do that, it tags the account that one has been used that month. This is to keep people from using more then one per month per restaurant.

One per month per restaurant. So really you could use a certificate everyday for the whole month, as long as they were all for different restaurants.

Thanks! That's what I thought.

I have used more in one day for different restaurants. One for lunch and another for dinner. No limit for that.
