Read today that Flame Tree BBQ is closing for a three month refurb and it got my reflecting on all of the current closures and refurbs at the different parks.

At what point do you decide that too much has closed or under refurbishment to merit spending the dollars to get into the park? Particularly HS where substantial work is beginning but that means much has closed and more probably will close.

Would you ever put off a visit just because of refurb schedules?

Honestly, if I hadn't rented DVC points from David's for our room (completely nonrefundable) I would have canceled already! Where did you read about Flame Tree BBQ closing? I hadn't heard about it.

Well, so far Splash and Kali are closed during our trip, which is really ok because being the end of January I wouldn't want to try them on a possible cold day and spend the rest of the day freezing walking around the park.

Flame Tree will be closed while we're there, but as we only have one AK day and it's already full with TH and Y&Y adr's, I'm fine with it.

I wouldn't cancel because of further closures unless they were to tell me that MK would be closed down completely. :rotfl2: I knew going in that the time of year we picked is great for crowds, but not so much for having every single ride/attraction open.

If I happened to be going just to do a specific ride or eat at a specific restaurant and it was closed, then I would cancel. Otherwise, no.

If it was my once in a lifetime only chance to do any of it trip, I'd think about not scheduling it when the major refurbs are (the "slower" times). the tradeoff is that more is open during busy times...but then it's busy. DHS is apparently going through a whole park remodel, and it won't be all together for quite a while, so it's going to depend on how long one is willing to put off doing everything else in that case.

In California, I skipped Disneyland because BTMRR was under refurbishment. Just spent one day at California Adventure instead of two days at both parks.

The following closures at WDW would cause me to postpone/cancel a trip and not just skip that park:
Haunted Mansion
Expedition Everest
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
Tower of Terror

No - there's plenty more to do, to see, to experience.

I do admit I gasped when you said Flame Tree BBQ Would be closed for a refurb because that's where I want to eat a full meal with my husband next week when we are there. However, even if it were closed, I'd be happy just strolling around and finding a new place to eat.

To me, Disney World is not about one thing. It's about the entire experience. I don't go to Magic Kingdom that often and my favorite attraction there is Splash Mountain. If it was closed during a trip, I'd get excited because then my husband would be on Peter Pan and I'd be on the Railroad.

Don't look at what you can't do - look at what you can do.

ugh - we're going in late January / early February - I hadn't read that it would be closed - this is fairly tragic! Not upsetting enough for us to skip Disney - that would take a lot!!

Thanks for the heads up
