I've been reading about all these REALLY good desserts :cake: and want to try many of them but don't want full meals beforehand. Has anyone ever made off-peak hours ressies just for dessert and coffee? My family loves desserts but not after full meals. Or...can I get them as "take-out"? Suggestions? :sunny:

We will usually get dessert to go from Kona, when we stay at the Poly. You could also make a ressie there for when the park closes to eat your desser too. I have not tried any other place yet. I love dessert too, especially when I am on vacation!

I have wondered this too. Actually, we would like milkshakes and onion rings at the Sci Fi, but I don't want a full meal. So I wasn't sure if it would be 'cool' to just walk up around 2:45 to see if they had empty table for an afternoon snack.

I figure it couldn't hurt, but I didn't make reservatins because I know we don't want to have a full meal there.

So I am not sure about this either.

You can make ressie's for just dessert if that is what you want. The Sci-Fi does get pretty booked, & can be hard to get. The Rainforest has a really good desert too, I got the Banana's Foster Crepe "Oh My it was good". The bakery in MK is a very good desert stop too "French Toast Loaf is calling my name". The French pastry shop in Epcot is yum as well. You could also stop in at the Plaza, at the MK for shakes. I am a huge dessert fan, so sometimes the rest of the family will eat & I will get dessert!

Good question - I've been trying to get more info on this as well. So if you wanted to do Sci Fi for dessert only do you have to tell the person you are making the ADR with that's it's for dessert only? Do they make 'dessert only' reservations only after a certain time? I'm asking because we have two little ones who like to eat early so we normally are ready for dessert when many others are just sitting down for dinner!! Any info appreciated. Thanks!

Whew! I'm so happy others want to know about this as well! I thought I was the only one who liked to make the most of the desserts! In fact, my family would rather eat fruits, veggies, and salads for our meals and put our calories and money towards dessert! :teeth: (Not that we won't partake in the great meals available, too, but I've got one HUGE sweet tooth--and DH and DC are right behind me!)

No you do not have to tell them you want dessert only. I mean you are paying for your desserts, just like you would a meal. So they do not frown upon this, I have done this a few times. So enjoy your dessert, & eat some for me too :thumbsup2

YOU ARE TAKING UP A TABLE!!!! so regardless if u are ordering a coke, eating fries, a 10 course meal, or a dessert you would make a ressie so u can get a table

Yep, we'd be taking up a table...but I just didn't know if they (servers) got snippy &/or frowned upon it or gave poor service because it's "only dessert". So thanks, bcsmom! Glad to know you've actually done this and have had good luck! :) I'm going to start planning my dessert ressies now! :cake:

I hope you enjoy! I must say 'Ohana has some of the best dessert too. I just love the Banana's Foster Bread Pudding, but I am not sure if you can get this to go. Because they serve everything like a feast. Oh don't forget the ice cream place at DTD, I can not remember how to spell it, but I think it is Ghiredelle's? Oh, and Beaches & Cream!!! Do I sound hungry to you :goodvibes

We did a walk-in for dessert at Prime Time a couple years back and had great, friendly, prompt service. As for ADRs, we asked specifically about this a couple months ago because we wanted to eat at both Marrakesh and Sci-Fi for dessert only. We asked did we need an ADR just for dessert, and the answer was "You're not even going to get in the restaurants even for dessert without one. You HAVE to make a reservation because the number of people eating at TS restaurants increased by a lot in the last year or so and walk-ups aren't accepted hardly ever." Actually no, she said walk-ups were never accepted. Same story from 2 other CMs when we called back to ask some other questions about closing times, and cancellation policies for California Grill. They were the 2 who said walk-ups were rare. So make those ressies if you want to guarantee yourself a chance to eat anywhere.

On our MGM day we will be there a full day. I have heard Prime Time has better food than SciFi, but SciFi is a don't miss for atmosphere. So I have made a lunch reservation at Prime Time and an onion ring/milkshake/desert break at 2:45 at SciFi. On another board I have read that a lot of people have done this and no one has mentioned it being a big deal. I'm not worried about taking up a table as I'm sure the milkshakes and onion rings will cost us at least an arm if not a leg.

Traciedee, you are right about that nothing is cheap. Not even dessert. You should also try the spinach & artichoke dip, it is very good. Oh & the Oreo shake, I think it was suppossed to have alcohol in it, but I did not taste any at all.

I was in the process of trying to make a dessert only ADR for Cinderella's Castle. It didn't work out though because there was a sudden cancellation and I hit the jackpot! I got CRT Lunch less than 3 weeks before the trip, before the changes and on the free dining plan :teeth:
My point is, the CM was going to make my reservation for dessert only during the dinner hours when this ADR popped up and she started squealing in the phone "I got it I got it, I got a lunch reservation for you!!!!" So I think the dessert thing can be done.
