If I wanted to stop upon arrival, and have lunch there, can we walk in or do we need reservations? Also, I'm trying to picture what this places looks like because the description says that it's "pool side"...are we eating outside or in. Is this place clean? Does the icream come cold or a bit melted (due to crowds)? Is it worth it or should I go some place else.

Beaches and Cream is only walk up. No reservations.

It is totally inside except for the "to go" window which only serves ice cream, milkshakes, floats, and soft drinks (in other words, no "real food").

I have never heard this place described as "pool side" but it is near Stormalong Bay. It is clean. I think you are thinking this is a place that people run into while swimming so they are in their bathing suits, etc.? That's not the case. Beaches and Cream is a step well above the old time ice cream parlors. (Think Jimmy Stewart working at Mr. Gower's pharmacy in It's a Wonderful Life. Then add booths along with the soda fountain.)
