sorry i am new to DVC. I will be closing in December and itching to make my first trip home. I am buying at BWV and I have a question about the 11 month advance reservation. In what month can you make reservations for xmas? Would that be January? if so can you call on Jan. 1 for a reservation of xmas or do you have to wait until exactly 11 months from the date?

You can make a reservation at your home resort 11 months before the check out date. Thus, if you are wanting to stay 12/23 - 12/28, you could call to make the entire reservation on 1/28 at the earliest.

For high peak usage times like Christmas, some have used the strategy where they call every day 11 months before the arrival date and call each day thereafter. This allows the 11 month advantage to be used on a day by day basis.

I will defer to others to explain that more clearly if this is not clear to you.

You can reserve 11 months before the check-out date. Example: If you're checking out on December 28, you can call on January 28. If the date falls on a weekend, you have to wait until Monday.

Some people call on a daily basis -- calling each day to add another day. Essentially, they're still calling 11 months before the check-out day, but then lengthening their stay on subsequent days. With rare exceptions, this is a waste of your time and Member Services' time -- and it just drives up our annual dues because we pay for the "free" 800 number service, the reservationists' pay and benefits, and the other costs of running the DVC reservations center. The exceptions would be any Grand Villas and possibly some standard view BWV units during very high demand periods. Other folks on this board may have some other exceptions where daily calls are worth the trouble.

To me the 11-month window means I can call 9, 10, or 11 months ahead and I'll get what I want. I don't bother calling exactly 11 months from the check out date, and I've never had a problem getting into our home resort (OKW).
