We are so excited to be members of DVC (just bought at BCV) and I am already planning our next 3 vacations (am I obsessed, or what?) The resort at HH looks like a great place to take our family, but how realistic is it for me to reserve a 2 BR villa for end of June/early July, 2003 at the 7 mo. window? Can I make a ressie at BCV at 11 mo. for a back-up and then switch if there's availability at HH? Sorry for the rookie questions, but I'm really trying to get this all figured out. Thanks for your help! -Dardi:)

I called for any week Sun-Thursday in June.
I called at the exact 7 month window for a studio, or 1 bedroom.
Sorry..... I'was put on a wait list....
I have read on past posts that it is almost impossible to get into HH at the 7 month window in the summer.
I wish you luck on getting a two bedroom!!!

HH is a very popular resort during the summer months. June-August is the busiest season.

I would suggest making a reservation at your home resort and then see if you can switch it to HH at 7 months- plan to use the wait list.

Having said that- reservations at all DVC resorts do open up all the time. Studios and 1BR villas are the hardest to get at HH since there are only 21 of each- while there are 76 2BR villas. (2BR's are much easier to find year round.) I would never assume you can't get a reservation as you'll never know until you call. The flexibility of DVC makes anything possible.

You can also consider asking on the Rent/Trade Board to see if someone would be interested in getting a reservation at HH for you and have you get a reservation at BCV for them.

Good Luck!

WebmasterDoc--Thanks for the info. The trade possibility sounds interesting, but how do I handle it? Do you actually trade points or is it all done on good faith? Since it is likely the amount of points both parties need will not match, how is that handled? Sorry for all the questions--I am the type of person that likes to know what I'm doing. Thanks for any help you can give!

P.S. What about Spring Break time? Next year my DH is on break after Easter (4/20) which is really late. Still difficult to get in? Weather? Thanks!

I arranged for our first trip to HH in July, 2001 at 7 months out. We staying in a 2 bedroom. I had to call day by day. I selected dates for our trip so that I had to call MS around Christmas (day before, day after). I don't know if this helped secure our reservation but I had absolutely no problem. We stayed Saturday-Saturday.

We got wait listed at the 5 monh mark. Waited for a one or 2 bedroom, got the 2 bedroom about 2 weeks later. I was happy :) it came through for us.

I was calling at the seven month window for this June at HH and I called day by day. I got 3 of the 5 days and was waitlisted for the other 2. I wanted a 1 bedroom. There were plenty of 2 bedrooms available. Anyway, about 6 weeks passed by and our waitlist came through.

I cannot wait to go away and enjoy HH. We have never been there and are looking forward to it.

Good luck

I was able to get a ressie for 6/19 - 6/22 2 BR at HH 5 months out.:) However, had to cancel about 2 weeks ago:( Hopefully I made some of my fellow DVCers day by getting them off the wait list:D

sgtpet--that's good news. Now when you say you called day by day, does that mean you called at the 7 mo window for each day of your trip and didn't wait until 7 mos from your departure day? Thanks for the help--Hopefully, someday I'll be the veteran and can answer someone else's rookie questions!:)

familymagic7.

To answer one of your earlier questions, "Yes," there is going to be some trust involved in conducting such a transfer.

The HH owner would make your ressie at the 11-month mark, or somewhere between 11-7, then you'd make their ressie at BCV the same way. You're right, the points total won't be the same. DVC only allows one transfer in OR out of a member's account per year, so ONE of you will need to transfer the net difference to the other's account.

Transferring is a very involved topic. MS spent a lot of time trying to explain the timing of a transfer to me once, and I reported it on the board - but I'm still confused.

But - it CAN be done. I booked a GV for early December at OKW for a friend of mine earlier this year, and she's going to transfer VWL points to me at the start of her Use-Year.

You can use the Rent/Trade board to look for someone willing to do the trade - there's a LOT of nice people on these boards!

Good Luck!
