I'm glad I'm tall 5'11" so if someone stands in front of me I can look right over their head lol Cuz id be so mad if someone just walked right in front of me during the parade. I really hate inconsiderate people. I don't think its the tech so much as people being raised correctly to respect others around you. Trashy ppl :(

There are many foreign visitors. Is it possible some people just dont understand english. Maybe they dont see it as inconsiderate.

Very true too.
That being said I'm 6'4" and would not let a single person in front of me unless they were a senior or a child. If I've stood there to reserve my place, I'm not about to allow a late visitor the Canadian Fastpass.

Yes very true.

I really don't think things have changed very much over the years - what has changed is our access to high tech devices.

I think you all need to tour with me. All 5 foot nothing of me can always seem to manage to get everyone around me to follow the rules. Mostly just to shut me up, but it seems to work. I start out nice, but if you don't comply I have an extremely sharp tongue and a wicked Irish temper. I really don't mean to get so belligerent, but once I get started, I can't seem to stop. I have gotten numerous rounds of applause from people around me though when I get some self-entitled jerk to stop doing what they are doing so I guess I'm not THAT bad.

I will let little kids in front of me at a parade though if the parent (or child) asks nicely, but if an adult tries to push though they will meet with an immovable wall, and a glare, and an "excuse you, I'm standing here, find another spot or get behind me".

What I don't get is why anyone would want to spend all that money on a vacation and then watch it happen from behind a camera or phone, etc. My first Disney vacation I took TWENTY ONE rolls of film (I know, I know ... hey, it was 1997!) and I barely remember any of it. You know what parts I DO remember? Universal Studios, where I HAD no more film left and didn't take any pictures.

Not to say taking pictures shouldn't occur, but it's so much better to EXPERIENCE it when it's happeneing. Too many people care more about how those pictures are going to look when they get home. Take some pictures, but don't go to the point where you're ruining your - or other people's - vacation.

A PP said it best, though - entitlement. We live in a world where people think the rules don't apply to them and don't CARE if they ruin the experience for someone else as long as they got what they wanted.

I agree. In 2003 (our first trip) I took tons of pics and video.

I went all out in 2008 and 2009 also since it was DD's first trip and our first trip on site.

In 2011 it was a pretty last minute trip and I wasn't very thrilled about it since I didn't know until we left that it was actually going to happen. It was iffy up until the day. I forgot my camera at home. I had a smart phone and took maybe 100 pics. Most of them were from character meals, the pool and character meet and greats. I don't recall every taking pictures on rides. Just never been my thing.

It was THE BEST vacation we have ever had. I think because I wasn't busy posing everyone and me always taking all the pics. And because DD wasn't in a stroller anymore.

Maybe you don't care to record memories for posterity and that is fine, but I do. I am thankful for the pictures and videos of long gone relatives. I love being able to show my dd pictures of her and her deceased grandmother because I worry the older she gets she will forget what she looks like. I want her to be able to look at picture or video and have it spark something that may have been forgotten about what she did and who was there with her.
Please don't assume that because some of us choose to be behind the lens we aren't living in the moment. I certainly am, and I'm making sure that those wonderful moments aren't forgotten. You may be lucky enough to just recall them when you want, but I want to make sure if I (or my kids) can't there is something tangible that helps.

Having said that, there is no excuse for people using flash photography and disrupting other people's moments and ruining their memories. It is rude and it isn't just a Disney problem, inconsideration is alive and well everywhere.

:thumbsup2

Some people feel that the rules don't apply to them or that if they paid enough money the rules are optional. Those type of people will always be a thorn in the sides of polite, well-meaning folks.

The only thing to combat this is for those of us who believe in respecting the rules to set a good example by continuing to be polite in the face of adversity and subsequently addressing the behavior if it is worth it and ignoring it if it is not.

but if you don't comply I have an extremely sharp tongue and a wicked Irish temper.

That can be dangerous...... I saw someone get his jaw broken trying to enforce the rules. It happens. There are lots of crazies out there willing to shoot first...............

When we were there last week they said flash photography WAS allowed, just NO lights on your video camera. I still rarely use a flash, just because I don't like the "look" of flash photos...but just letting you know that it was allowed in the FOTLK.

Last year I swear they announced several times no flash. And if they have changed it, then I am definitely not going to see it again. All the flashing was so distracting I had a hard time watching the show because all I saw was the flash. Thank you for that info!

I know, but I just can't seem to help myself. I'm going to get myself in a lot of trouble one day, but I HATE to see bullies win and most of the time they win it is because they know most people won't stand up to them. Hopefully Disney is checking those bags really really good ;)

Good on yeh.

Nope. That's always been the rule. Flash is allowed at FoLK. I agree with you though, that it's very annoying and distracting!

I could be wrong. Very often I am. But I think the context of what you responded to was people filming Wishes, a parade, or a ride where no photography was allowed. I don't think it was in reference to someone taking family pictures, or meet and greets sort of thing. Of course, you want to make your memories and photos are an excellent way to do this, but unless your child is Tinkerbelle, at the beginning of Wishes, or your family are the grand marshalls of a parade, I was thinking the poster was thinking people should just enjoy the fireworks, or ride, or show without trying to capture it in the camera. But I could be wrong. Very often I am.

On our August trip somebody was filming the "under the sea with nemo" ride at the seas from two shells away from us... their flash was on like a spot light for almost the entire ride. NONE of the special effects worked because of the light, so we could see a bunch of screen and strings everywhere. Toward the end I tried yelling out "turn the light off" but they didnt care.
Im just glad we rode it again, it would have been sad if that was our only experience. Apparently they wanted a video that takes all of the magic out of the ride?

I was there at the end of August and I think we must have been there at the same time! The shell in front of us had 3 people and the middle person had the camcorder with the light on the whole time. It was so bright that it lit up where the anglerfish is chasing Nemo and Dory to the point that we could see the mechanics behind that scene. To be fair, I don't think the group spoke english because I also asked them to stop pretty much to their faces. Is what it is I suppose at that point. At least the dolphins and manatees made me feel better afterward lol

Nor should you be expected to. ;)

What I do not get in this entire thread is those who feel that people taking photos is disrespectful or rude???? In a dark ride, yes. Maybe even holding up an ipad or tablet, but taking pictures in normal lighting conditions or during a parade or fireworks? Seriously???? I would call that a "me" attitude for sure.

I didn't read anywhere where anyone claimed taking pictures is rude. I only read that lighting up dark rides with your flashes or recording lights is rude and that holding up a tablet above your head and blocking other people is rude. Other people simply pointed out that there is no need to record every ride, parade and firework on your little phone. Chances are you can download that exact same footage, taken with a better camera and then you can actually watch the ride, parade or firework. However, holding recording devices above your head and blocking those behind you who thought they got an OK spot is kinda rude. It's like putting your kid up on your shoulders right before the action starts and people can no longer get to a new position. You are entitled to your space, but not every bit of space around you.
