Sara - I think Lynn walked over from POR! You'll have to ask her about it if you do the walk to the start thing. I chickened out b/c I was so disoriented to my location and i was afriad they would stop me. I should be a rebel like craig and lynn!
I will definitely be walking from POR if we don't rent a car!!

So do you walk back to POR after the marathon, or take the bus? I can't imagine walking anymore after the marathon....lol My legs were so sore the next 3 days I could barely move. ha,ha. Anyone else "feel the pain"?

There are buses running back to POR, so you will want to take those. As it will be much later in the morning and traffic will be considerably heavier, I would not chance trying to walk back.

Oh, and I will be at the Beach Club, Wednesday to Wednesday. If anyone was curious, I tried the Yacht Club and BWI first and they had nothing except concierge rooms available for these dates at this time.

I'm trying to figure out where to stay for the 1/2 '07 and need help from all you race veterans.

We need something on the cheaper end, and we are going to have to take the bus to the start since my parents will be with us and can't walk far. Which ones would you suggest I check out? I don't want a really long bus ride :moped: as I'm sure nerves will be doing a number on my stomach at that point. :scared:

Thanks in advance! :thanks:

I stayed at Pop Century for the half and didn't think the bus ride was that long. I really enjoy this resort...

LIlo - We took the bus from Pop to watch the half and it was fine. Your parents cannot come to the start with you though. They will take a later bus (which will be what we did). If it was like last year, there will not be spectators at the start. They will go straight to TTC and get to MK if they want from there.

There were continuous busses for spectators at Pop last year (about 2 hours behind teh buses for the participants. It was very easy. Bus came to teh rgualr Pop bus stop.

I am at the Swan also. Can't wait for the heavenly bed after the race!

As far walking/running with anyone. I was solo all the way through, my family also gave me the "Are you nuts". I did start out with folks but if you aren't on pace with someone it is hard to maintain.
It would be fun to be in the same corral and at least start out together.

How did you all get booked already??

I can't even find rates for those dates yet.

Help please????

NOt everyone has room. I think it's pretty much just DVCers that do. We book 11 months out.

I think you can call for rates, just can't get them online. HTH!

 :Pinkbounc Just made my reservations for Pop, from Jan. 9-14. I believe the 5th - the 9th will be with TNT and we'll be staying at Caribbean. :woohoo: :woohoo: I am ready!

Right now, I have the GF booked the 4-8, and then a 1-br villa booked at SSR the 8-11. I'm probably will be doing TNT, though, so that will likely change!

I think TNT will be staying at Caribbean next year, but I'm not 100% sure

Change of plans for us, as the kids REALLY want to stay at POP. Therefore, we'll be at POP from 1/4-1/8. I am hoping to book AAA rates in June, when I'm anticipating they'll be released for 2007. Then I'll try for an AP rate, if one becomes available.

I actually switched my reservation from the Beach Club to the Polynesian just last week.

One thing I should mention-- it seems as though a lot of the deluxe resorts are either full or starting to fill up for marathon weekend. If you are going to be running, I would probably try to get a ressie on the books. Since the 2007 rates haven't been released yet, the deposit is equivalent to one night at regular season rack rate, just FYI (And that probably will come down when the value season rates for next season.)

Hope this helps someone out!

Sara,

Where did you originally book? The Pop is alot of fun, clean and cute...it's not a deluxe, but I think you'll be pleased. The only thing was I wish it had a jacuzzi because after the marathon, my legs were killing me. lol :teeth:

Originally we were going to do POR because we were undecided about who was running what race, so we were planning on 5 in the room (3 kids). Now DH is doing the 1/2 and I'm doing the full, so only 2 of our 3 kids are coming with us.
We've stayed at AKL, BCV and Swan, BWV the last two marathons. We usually feel we've earned the "comfort" after all the training. However, ever since the kids stayed at POP for 10 nights in 10/05, they've been begging to go back. So, I'll be taking a step down for their sake next time around.

I wonder what the dates are that TNT books? I have ressies starting 1/9, and I want to make sure that's not a day too late to start my ressie. :confused3

TNT last year stayed at CBR, CSR and PO (FQ or R I am not sure).

I did not like CBR for our TNT transportation needs. I also don't like it for general transport needs for marathon weekend (you have to drive or walk to the main lobby building area as the marathon busses only pick up there. They do not circle the resort). It is okay for regular needs--but it was a bummer to find out that we had to self transport to the pickup point.

POFQ and OKW are the best self-transport (AKA walking) resorts.

Beyond that--the monorail resorts come in a nice second for proximity and beyond that, cost and whatever floats your boat come in third.

Everyone I know who stayed on monorail thought that was by far the best way to do marathon weekend, especially from an observation pov.

boardwalk hotels are nice for catching the end of the race--but family will not be able to see you finish unless they are faster than you ;).

In the future (note, not this time around!) I will be staying at a monorail resort if it is affordable. Bus resorts were simply too taxing on my family.

I updated in the post above--but the chapters are divided among resorts (your chapter should 99.9999% be staying at the same resort as one another).

Far too many of us swarm disney to all fit nicely into one spot. Good for TNT fundraising :cheer2: .

Not so good for resort selection.

You will KNOW where you are definitely at by December. We are the central Florida chapter--but it is nationals that does all the travel arrangements. So we didn't even know until then.

**You may even know by October at recommittment--but I can't remember. I really think it is December when you recieve your travel packet information. I had knee surgery last year at recommittment time--so the paperwork kind of blurs as I was given a special extension in order to accomodate an appropriate prognosis.
