We have stayed at several resorts but never one with a kitchen. We are going in early Jan. and I would love any ones help on which resort will be best. We have a 6 year old so if it is warm enough the pool may be a factor. Thanks for your help.:)

The following resorts have full kitchens:

Wilderness Lodge Villas - 1 or 2 bedroom
Boardwalk Villas - 1, 2 bedroom or Grand Villa
Old Key West Resort - 1, 2 bedroom or Grand Villa
Beach Club Villas - 1 or 2 bedroom
Fort Wilderness Resort - Cabins

All of the above, with the exception of Fort Wilderness are Disney Vacation Club resorts. Therefore it may be difficult to obtain reservations at these resorts. However, you could check out the DVC Rental forum located on this site where DVC members are willing to rent points for stays at these resorts, making it easier to obtain a reservation and often times saving you a great deal of money off of the regular rates offered through Disney. It's worth looking into.

Thanks for the great info...Do you happen to know any links to photos of these resorts. DVC board here I come.

We have stayed in the FW Cabins a couple of times and we have thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I believe they are the least expensive option for a full kitchen. Here are my thoughts on the typical 'cons' to the cabins...

Theming -- true there isn't 'real' theming, but we really like being in the middle of the forest -- it's very peaceful and quiet.

Convenience -- pools, arcades and prepared food can be a bit of a hike. This is true. I'd recommend renting a golf cart if you plan to enjoy all the amenities of FW. We never found the pools to be an uncomfortable walk -- and we've often been the only ones in the pool.

Buses -- the bus system at FW has not been at all bad in our experience; some people have experienced waits that they thought were too long. The buses go directly to the TTC just like any other resort. You can take a boat directly to MK.

On the positive side, the cabins are very peaceful and relaxing and quiet, you can park your car (if you have one) in your very own spot right in front of your cabin, housekeeping does the dishes (and all the usual things), you have a BBQ grill right outside your front door, the bedroom is separate from the rest of the cabin for napping kids, and the price can't be beat! So if you like the 'camping' atmosphere, you might give them a try.

We have also stayed in the villas at the Disney Institute. They are much more like an apartment in 'feel'. We only stayed there because it was back when you could take classes at the DI -- so it was convenient.

Have fun!

unless you are actually considering cooking, the studios at okw and villas at wl have a kitchenette w/a microwave, small frig, coffeemaker, and toaster. we found this to be all we needed in december.:p

Thanks for the great advice, the photos really helped as well, We do need a full kitchen however so I guess the studio would not work. Any one else experience would be help ful as well , Thanks again.

We are DVC and really enjoy the full kitchens. In addition, the 1 bdrms have a washer/dryer, which cuts down on the clothes you have to bring. The rooms are great - really more like having a 1 bdrm apartment right at Disney. You can get these for cash. Disney has a few that DVC members have traded out to go to other places (Disney Paris, etc). Also, as mentioned before, there is always the possibility of renting points from owners.

Old Key West!!!!!!! :) :) :) :) :) :)

Your best deal would be to rent points from a DVC member.

Have a great trip! :)

Mikemom, which is your favorite??

On grounds we've stayed at BWV (considered our "home" resort) and OKW. Haven't tried WL and Beach Club for DVC isn't open yet.

I like 'em both. I LOVE Boardwalk for the fact that you can easily walk into Epcot or MGM - and there's a little boat if you don't want to walk. We've actually walked over to France in the World Showcase just to ge some French bread at the Bakery. The pool has a cool slide and there's lots to do on the Boardwalk in the evening (for the kids, too!) if you don't want to go in the park.

That being said, I like OKW when I really need to chill out. You really aren't very aware of Disney at your back door, as it's so beautiful, peaceful and relaxing there. The units are larger than BW - although if you'e been staying in regular hotel rooms, you'll think that Boardwalk is HUGE. There are 4 pools at OKW, but no slide. Transportation is a boat to Downtown Disney or bus service everywhere else. Not quite as convenient, but I've never been disappointed in the service.

Consider this a warning... once you try a 1 bedroom at either resort, you'll never go back. We stayed on cash at BW "just this once" 3 years ago and were so impressed and happy that we bought into DVC. It's a common reaction. The DVC accomodations really improve the quality of a vacation

Snowwhitemom....I'm a BWV DVCer...So, I would pick a BWV over any of the others...we always use our kitchen ...we save loads in food bill...

How many in your party??

Point rental can be a scary thing (sending tons of money to someone you've never met)...but I have both rented points and rented my points out to another person from these boards....I have always had a positive experience....Renting points is always way cheaper then actually renting the room from Disney.

Personally I don't like the cabins...everything the other poster found as a positive I found to be a negative...We actually only stayed 2 nights out of 7 nights at the cabins and called CRO and asked to be moved...they moved us to the BWV....we purchase into DVC before leaving for home...great move on Disney's part....

If you have any questions regarding point rental you can PM me anytime...

We will be staying at the VWL this coming September. We got a two-bedroom reservation straight thru Disney and saved $800 with a AAA discount. If you have AAA this would truly be worth your time to check into. Disney opens up the DVC to the general public 9 months before the date in question. BWV's and VWL's are the exact layout just with different motif. And VWL is much cheaper. Plus it is attached to a much smaller resort than the Boardwalk. Here are some great picks of the rooms .

I'm sure no matter what you pick, you will have a great time.

I love this site...Thanks so much...I may have to send a few pm's out...Thanks for the offer. Everyone has been great!!!
