Resorts still available at X-mas?

Does anyone find it odd that there are still resorts available for X-mas week? I was under the impression that everything books up months in advance. Any ideas?

Maybe it's because people cancel or change their resorts. I ended up changing mine from the GF to WL just today as a matter of fact.

That must be nice. :santa: I have always wanted to stay at the WL> We stayed at the Poly in Feb, and it was wonderful. This time we are at POR. I am hoping for the best! Have a great trip!

I checked December 23rd to 28th.

Nothing at Values.

For Mods: CBR and POR have some VERY limited room choices.

For Deluxe & DVC : Beach Club and Saratoga Springs (1 or 2 bed villa only)

That's a fairly limited selection.

Its an extremely safe bet that the resorts are running at 95% to 98% occupancy.

That's darned near sold out.

I only checked the 21st-28th, but I was able to come up with some Mods, and Deluxes, as well as DVC resorts. I was suprised the Poly was still open. I guess the closer you get the the New Year, the harder it is to find a room. Thanks.....

I'm like you trspohr, I checked less than 2 weeks ago for the 21st to the 26th (just out of curiosity as that is when we are going) and there was availability at almost every resort in every category. I hope this is good news for those of us going then.

We decided about 5 or 6 weeks ago to go for a week @ Christmas and availability was changing minute by minute. I looked online and saw BC available (where the in-laws are staying). Called CRO, guy started doing the booking, got the first room and by the time he started booking the second, they were sold out!! We ended up booking YC which is fine, but I've looked online several times and it has changed constantly.

I could only WISH that crowds were down that week!! :sad2:

Remember you have to click on the resort to confirm availability.

The first screen after you enter the dates ALWAYS lists all 23 resorts.

Everytime.

I ran into this in another thread a few weeks ago when someone said that 'nearly all resorts' had availability on New Years Eve. I knew that simply wasn't accurate. So I checked two weeks ago for New Year's Eve AND Christmas week and there was very limited availability.

And that hasn't changed much. To confirm this, call CRO and ask. Resorts are VERY full already for Christmas week. There is some limited availability as noted. But it's just that.. limited. :)

Here's a post I made at that time (November 15th).. (New Year's Eve example)

Wow.. I tried that exact thing yesterday and posted my results earlier in this thread..

I think I see your mistake tho.. ALL 23 resorts come up in that first listing.. that does NOT indicate availability. I could enter the date of December 24th or just New Years Eve and ALL 23 resorts come up in that listing. It doesn't matter what dates you enter, the first listing shows all the choices.

You have to click on one of them .. and THEN see what comes up.

For example: I checked New Years Eve. The first screen after you enter the dates shows 23 resorts. But when you click on ANY of the 23 choices, only The Beach Club and the Boardwalk are showing ANY availability for that date.

In addition, I checked with a friend who has the ability to look at resort availability in the coming weeks and she's indicating overall property-wide 96% occupancy (or higher) for those dates. Many resorts are 100% booked on a bunch of different dates.

IN fact, at least two resorts are currently overbooked at greater than 100% on some date ranges.

So with all those datapoints in hand, I feel very comfortable saying that there are NOT 23 resorts available for the dates where they supposedly were.. The resorts are nearly booked up.

Yes, I do realize that you have to click on the resort link in order to determine availability. I didn't mean for this post to lead assumptions, or sarcasim, so I will agree with the fellow Diser that kindly pointed out that availability changes, minute, by minute.

I didn't mean to come across that way.. Apologies if I did. Truly

Just that in the other case, the poster wasn't click to check availability. That's all. (That thread on the rumors & news board was much more aggressive than this thread and I should have probably edited my copied post .. )

Sorry if I offended. Sincerely.

No offense taken. I just figured it was easier to end the conversation, rather than differ in opinion about availablity. Regardless, it WILL be crowded and we will all need to have our manners in hand. Happy Holidays! :santa:

When we originally checked availability two months ago, we wanted the Poly, but the only thing available was Yacht Club, Boardwalk and AKL. Two weeks later when I went to book, the Yacht, Boardwalk and AKL were sold out, but somehow... there was NOW availability at the Poly for the dates we wanted.

Woo Hoo, I grabbed it. Where we wanted in the first place.

Something interesting... the night that we finally booked, I was searching :surfweb: BEFORE dinner, the Yacht had a room we wanted. The family discussed over dinner, and AFTER dinner I went online to book and the Yacht was now sold out. Just over a one hour dinner, the situation changed!

My conclusion was as others have stated, that people makes last minute (or close to last minute) changes and rooms come open that weren't there just a week or two ago.

Hey Canadian Guy I did check resort by resort. Don't assume that I just looked at resort number at the top of the page. When I checked 2 weeks ago almost every resort had availability (on a limited basis) but there was availability. I was very curious and just wanted to see for myself. No reason to argue about it.

I was suprised last week to see that the Poly still had availability for my trip (16-24th of December) so we switched from a Studio at the WL Villa's to the Poly. I really can't wait to see the resort!! I have only been to the Pop and All Star Sports before.
