Anyone go to WDW first week of July and not go to the parks? We will be at Vero Beach last week in June and are thinking of spending a few days at Disney on our way back home. We will be driving. We don't want to go to the parks but would go to DtD. I was just wondering if the resorts are as crowded as the parks? Will we be able to get a chair at the pool?

DTD doesn't have a pool. SSR does.

I don't understand what you are asking?

WDW resorts are pretty crowded - DVC resorts less so - but summer everyone does the pool thing.

I would not go to the parks because from past experience they are too crowded for us. I know DtD has no pool, I'm sorry if my post implied that? What I meant was is DtD really crowded in the summer, or are most people in the parks? My question is are the resorts full and packed during the day with people at the pool? Or, should the resorts be quiet during the day because most people will be in the parks. Are the resorts usually full to capacity and does this make it less enjoyable in the summer? That's my question.

The theme pool at CBR was always packed - the quiet pools were fine. However the water in all the pools was very warm and not refreshing at all.

We were there July 31-Aug7, and DTD was pretty crowded the night we went. I would think that things would be slower during the day though, since it seemed everyone was at the parks!

We travel to WDW every July, and have for the past 15+ years. We also visit DISNEY'S VERO BEACH resort each summer. The crowds in the summer, have never bothered us. Since the parks are so large, (with several to choose from), not to mention water parks and DTD...we never notice any problems. We have visited DTD during the day...and it is not too crowded. Especially in the early morning, it's nearly deserted. ;) By the afternoon, things begin to pick~up, and by the evening...they are in full swing! Yet, even at night, the crowds are not so noticible or troubling.

We have also enjoyed the pool areas at the resorts during the day. I noticed the people begin to arrive around 11:30 am, (probably returning from early entry to the parks), and wane again around 3:00 pm. In the late eve...they too are desolate, (guests retire to prepare for early morning). I'm sure you would enjoy a very nice time in WDW...even if you did not visit the parks.

There is enough to see/experience without ever entering a park. You could play miniature golf...take in a movie @ the AMC Pleasure Island cinema...enjoy Cirque...stroll along the Boardwalk, all around the lake while viewing illuminations...visit AKL for some shopping/dining, or viewing of the animals by moonlight w/special night vision binoculars supplied by the CM/guide (everyone is invited to do this...not just registered guests)...visit DISNEYQUEST...enjoy a SPA treatment at GF or SSR...visit AK and dine in the RFC (no park ticket necessary...it's usually much less crowded than the DTD location, and you can take a bus from/to DTD)...rent some water sprites and jet around the waterways...take the Sassagoula Express from DTD to the beautiful POR for some shopping/dining (boatwright's is fab)...take an evening spin on the monorail, sitting in the front as you cruise around the MK resorts *(finish @ the CR, where you have a wonderful choice of restaurants & shopping--you can even view the MK fireworks & Elec. Water Pagent from the splendid Cali Grill!)...take a bus back to DTD...stroll the shops and sights of Pleasure Island....visit the Peabody hotel off I-Drive (www.peabodyhotel.com) to take in the world Famous "DUCK MARCH" (for which the hotel is noted!). This happens each day @ precisely 11:00 am, and 5:00 pm. The ducks literally march down the red carpet from the elevator (and their roof-top condo) into the lobby fountain, and back again in the afternoon! It's a hoot! We have stayed here many times, and enjoy this fun & whimsical tradition...take a drive over to nearby CELEBRATION and dine/shop or take in a movie at the quaint Downtown theater! Visit Universal Studio's City Walk! The list is truly endless...it's one GIANT playground of opportunity, so enjoy everything which is available to you and your family! :sunny: ::yes::

HAVE a MAGICAL TIME!! :wizard:

That's exactly the info I was looking for.

I kinda thought things would be quiet at DtD in the morning early afternoon because of people wanting to be in the parks.

We almost always go to the quiet pool when at a WDW resort. I find it easier and less crowded with our small children. The kids won't care if it's refreshing!

Thanks!

We always go first week of July with check in a day or two after the 4th. Just remeber, over July 4th, resorts will be at or close to full capacity. You may want to stay at a resort close to MK or MGM to watch the special firework display from your resort. Those resorts will be packed along with the vaules on the 4th though.

In 2001 we checked into PORS at 1030am and our room was ready. Enjoyed the boat to DTD. Nice and relaxing.
Resort wasn't full.

In 2002 we checked into the YC at 730am on July 6th, our room was ready and was told resort was only 50% full. Filled up by the following weekend to 100%. Nice pool YC.

In 2003 we stated at ASMo checked in on the 6th late. Though this resort was crowed compared to the other two.
Cleared out during the day. We returned alot of the days in early afternoon for a break and pools were not that crowded.

As stated by previous post DTD is not crowded until early evening. If it is a rainy day DQ fills up fast at DTD, if you plan to go there do it on a non rain day.
