My family of 4 will be traveling to Orlando in May. My DD17 is graduating high school so this is a senior trip. I'm a bit confused over the magic bands and resort stays. I own an offsite time share and I already have my 5 day park tickets. As a result, it's not justifiable to stay on site the whole trip. I guess my question is, if I rent a room for one night, at a value resort, will I be able to get magic bands and link my 5 day tickets to them?

Yes this practice is called using a throwaway room. Theres is big thread here somewhere on the subject.

Keep in mind that things can change at anytime. Disney might be allowing this practice right now, but possibly not when you travel.
