Can a guest from another resort take the tours at the WL or AKL?

Do you mean just walk the grounds, see the pool, lobby, shops, etc? Sure! You can do that - we always do, esp at Christmas or when we are considering staying at another hotel. Plus some of the giftshops are different, AKL is a good place to stop by, since you can view the animals and shop at their cool store. Dining at any of the resorts is also a nice treat

You can also request a room tour, if you would like, and if the CMs aren't too busy, and there is a room available, they'll be more than happy to show it to you. =)

We think the gift shops at both AKL and WL are the best of all the resorts. Have fun.

I think you might be referring to the official tour that is offered by the resort.

We did the one at AKL when we stayed there in 2001. I don't know if someone not staying there can do it or not - I would call the front desk and ask. There were not alot of people who did it along with us. I think because it is offered during mid-day, most people don't know about it or don't want to take the time because it cuts into park touring.

The one at the AKL was ONLY of the lobby. It did not include looking into any rooms. Also, you can walk around yourself and see the animals from the viewing areas.

The focus was the african artwork on display in the lobby. There was a thorough description of the medallions on the floor and what they meant. The CM told us what the imagineers had in mind when designing different parts of the lobby. There are some art pieces on display including a very large mask that is worn for special occasions (I forgot what). They explained the meaning of it all.

Basically, it is a cultural education of African artwork and its meaning. I would think this would be very good for a child whose parents or teachers want them to learn something about another culture on their WDW vacation. Or for anyone interested in such things.

It did take a little while. If anyone in your group is impatient to be "doing" something in the parks, they might start getting antsy.
