We're going to do some resort touring. We have one morning and one evening. In the morning we'll probably do the monorail resorts (including bfast at Chef Mickeys). In the evening we'll do Boardwalk and Yacht and Beach, hoping to catch a glimpse of Illuminations. (We're not going into EPCOT at all this year.)
We'll get to WL and AKL some time (maybe on another day.)

What's the most important, defining thing to see or do at each resort? I don't want to wander aimlessly since we have such a limited amount of time.

AKL is easy...see the animals. If your there at night go to Arushu Rock and ask for the night vision goggles. If you like hidden Mickey's they have a sheet with 17 of themfor you to find.

Poly, I like being in the pool/on the beach watching the water pageant. Then there was drinking some coffee in the morning and watching Cindy's castle.

Being a resort nut I had to take a crack at this for you, though I think the answer become simply , just see the resorts, there isn't much outside of touring the grounds for most of them.

Contemporary - This one is a little different as the building and that horrible old mural won't impress you too much. Go up the the California Grill (I have even popped in during the day when it was closed) or outdoor stairways on the highest floors to see the Magic Kindom views, its really something to see as it's so close.

BC,YC,Boardwalk,Swan & Dolphin - just walk the whole loop, they are all so beautiful and wonderfully landscaped, just seeing them makes me want to stay. Go behind the Swan and Dolphin to see thier wonderful pool, you will miss it unless you go out of the way to see it. The lobby of the Boardwalk is very cool with a great chandelier. Really just walking around the lake by these hotels is the main highlight, its probably the nicest place in the world.

GF - same thing for the GF, but inside its something to see as well, go to the bars, walk on the beach, I like the walk from the GF to the Poly, its very relaxing.

Poly - not a huge poly fan, I think this hotel shows its age but obviously the new volcano pool is something to see

AKL - used to require a meal reservation to get in, Boma is nice, I didn't see too many animals when I went, but they are there, its just hit and miss at times. Beautiful hotel, pool was dissapointing to me.

WL - Wonderful building and grounds, don't miss it. There is a geyser out back that I didn't know about , not sure how often it goes off but thats a pretty cool idea. Just walk to the back and look back toward the hotel, its amazing.

Have fun ;)

Let me see which ones I can help with...

Poly--enjoy relaxing on a hammock on the Poly's beach or a meal at 'Ohana (my favorite restaurant on WDW property)

GF--enjoy shopping in the stores in the GF's gorgeous lobby; in the evenings they have an orchestra that plays in the lobby if you can go in the evening

WL--sit by the fire in the breathtaking lobby

AKL--go to Arusha Rock to view the animals!

BW--rent a surrey bike and ride around Crescent Lake; you'll go by the YC/BC and Swan/Dolphin also

:)
