I'm thinking of taking DS for a short trip in May, just him and I. Since DD was born he doesn't get a lot of time with me by himself so I thought a little get away would be nice. We like to stay somewhere different each time so I'm looking for suggestions. DS has stayed at Poly, AKL, ASMo, and CBR. I've also stayed at POFQ. Any opinions? I was thinking the CR might be fun with the wild colors, monorail through it and close to MK?

Thanks!

Mine loved the Dolphin when he was that age and we had some great vacations there, just us. Sometimes when DH had to go to a conference in Chicago or somewhere we'd just go to the Dolphin and WDW!!!

My DS's LOVED WL when we stayed there... I'd definitely recommend that. It's close to MK, yet feels like a real vacation! :) The bunkbeds are cool, and taking the boat to MK and CR are fun. I personally don't like the overall atmosphere of CR. I find it kind of antiseptic, 70's-ish and crowded. I wouldn't stay there, despite the fact that it's so close to MK (my FAVORITE park!).

Another idea would be to try one of the Epcot resorts. I stayed at BC in Sept. and absolutely loved that place! I'm bringing the boys with me in May, and I know they'll be in heaven with the fabulous SAB pool! It's great being able to walk to Epcot and take the ferry to MGM... I'd highly recommend BC/YC if you wanted to try an Epcot resort.

Have a great trip,
Sarah

I think CR is a great idea. Doesn't have quite the feel as some of the other resorts IMHO, but the monorail thing is key with DS's age. Plus the convenience since it will be just the 2 of you. And don't forget Chef Mickey's is right there. Having everything close by is important for a short visit. My DS was 4 during our trip and he couldn't stop talking about the monorail. In fact, we ordered the model one for him as a xmas gift because he was still reminiscing about it after 6 mos!

though you've stayed there - as a kid the big serpent/dragon slide is great - we hadn't been there in years & my 10 & 12 year old loved the pool - and if you want a transportation treat - you have the boats -

We (dd, 5 and me) just did CR. It was great, BUT we're not big sit-down-to-a-nice-meal eaters. Frankly, I found that our first few days at ASMu worked better for us, because the food court had decent, not-fried or pizza food. Breakfast selections were much better at the food court (except for the morning we at at Chef Mickeys! lol.) at the all-stars, I thought. I just didn't want to sit and eat at the steakhouse.

Anyway, if you're going to do more eating on the run, I'd go with a place with a food court rather than a deluxe.

Which is a shame, because other than that, I LOVED CR.

If he's as active as my DSs were at that age, they loved FW (this was before WL was built). They loved the fact that they could run around a lot, and even though the pools didn't have slides then, they had a lot of fun. When DS #1 graduates from college in May we're spending the last 2 days of our vacation there, because he remembers how much he loved it as kid.

Hi and thanks for the replies!

You know the CR doesn't appeal a lot to me personally but I thought it might be fun for a little boy and so close to MK. Are there not fast food options there? It's so hard to decide!

I do like the WL idea. Tthe Epcot resorts would be something I'd chose for me but I wasn't sure if it would be as much fun for him, although I could see him loving SAB.

I have never really researched the Dolphin - simonmunro what was it your son liked? How's the pool there?

I think a monorail hotel would be great for a kid when we want to focus on MK - the GF would be lost on him, we've stayed at the Poly although it's been about 3 years. Has the Poly changed must in the last few years? They redid the pool? How is it now?

So many questions - thanks for your help.

we are staying at the contemporary resort mar 5-9 with a ds that will be turning 6 right before our trip, and he loves the pictures of the resort with the monorail going through. we have previously stayed at the poly and the gf and he enjoyed both of these resorts also. I will post a trip report when we return.

We've stayed at a variety of places, and despite the "70's" decor, it's my DD (7) & DS (5) hands-down favorite place. There is a fast-food type place behind the lobby, so you don't have to eat sit-down, & my 7yo LOVES the big arcade there. The one down-side IMHO is the pool, because though big, it lacks zero-depth. Doesn't matter much to us because unfortunately I have two ear-tube kids who get infections every time they swim. We all love the convenience of being able to hop on the monorail & get to both Epcot or MK quickly. The kids complained about the "long walk" to the monorail from both the Poly & GF (we weren't in the main bldg @ GF, & have always stayed Tower at CR -- my kids love watching the park & fireworks from the balcony).

Hope you like it wherever you decide!

If your DS is anything like our 6 year old, he would LOVE Toy Story at ASMO.......great food court, nice pool and easy transportation.

I agree that CR would be the resort of a 6 year old boy's dreams! Cool monorail going through the middle, great slide into the main pool, nice playground, not to mention the awesome game room. The colors in the rooms are bold and energizing, and it is so convenient, just a short walk away from the MK... how cool is that???

DH and I stayed there last January, and it is now my favorite resort! It is "Mickey's resort"!

I should also mention that even when we stay at CR, my kids love to watch Chef Mickey's "celebrations" where everyone twirls the napkins around -- even when we're not in the restaurant. They get a bang out of it whether they spot it from the monorail or peeking over the balcony in the hall outside our room.

Also, definitely consider CR tower or GF Royal Palm (main bldg) if you think you will want/need to stop back in your room at all during the day. It's much less of a hassle to take a quick monorail around that having to take buses or boats. Also, remember that you can often wheel sleeping kids right in the stroller onto the monorail and down/up the elevator to your room when you stay in a monorail/MK resort.

:D

Thanks for all the thoughts. I tend to think if it's just DS and me that I like the security of a deluxe hotel with the interior halls etc. I don't know but it seems a little safer although I'm not too worried about crime at WDW. I guess I'll search and try to get more info on CR!

they do have an area by the arcade at CR where you can get food, not a huge variety, but they have a grill, sandwhiches, salads, breakfast foods, deserts, fruit, and things like that.
