Resort Specific Merchandise Returning?

Just got back and really disliked the Disney Parks things!! I chose Walt Disney World for vacation not some generic Disney Park!!

And I would have loved POR resort specific items!!! Maybe they are realizing that they are losing $$$$ or more specifically just not making more $$$$$ :lmao:

It is crazy to not have these - think of the thousands of people who stay at POP every year - they would make a killing on these. And I agree , the vinyl- mation stuff can go - it doesn't sell much anyway. We would love to buy t shirts, mugs, sweaters, etc. from Pop but there's none to be had.:surfweb:

Actually from what I have seen that's not true, I have some friends that are serious collectors of every Vinylmation that WDW has released.

Plus at Mickey's Pin Trading Night at the Contemporary I would say more then half of the people attending are also brining Vinylmations to trade. In fact some people don't even take their pins anymore, they just take their Vinylmations so they can trade them only.

Just got back 2 weeks ago. Of the resorts I visited, here's what I noticed...

POP and CBR...nothing but a pin or 2.

CR...didn't see anything here. Probably had a pin, but I didn't look for one.

GF...had an "itty bitty" section in the corner of the gift shop on the main floor. A different (and less) selection since we were there in 2009.

Poly...this resort had quite a bit in the Boutiki (?) store.

I LOVE resort specific merchandise and would probably spend a fortune on it if they brought it back to all resorts.

That would be us too. I plan on bringing the VM that I don't really care for back with me for trading.

LOL :rotfl2: We spent $660 on them last year. :rotfl2:

OUCH!!!!

I only had 1 instance that involved vinylmation. 1st of all, I never even heard of them until I got down there last Dec.

2nd, the people I feel for are the ones that are at the vinylmation pick a # and/or trade stations. I was at Fulton's (Port Orleans gift shop), waiting in line to get my day's pictures. At the front of the line was a little girl that kept on trading back every vinylmation that she was picking the number to. Every time she'd pick a number, the CM would present her the figure she picked, then the girl would immediately trade the 1 she got for another random chance.

Fast forward 20 min later, Mom and Dad finally called "enough is enough."

Oh, let me tell you.......

We knew the VM were there and before we left home for our trip last year and thought "Wow. What a huge waste of money!" Fast forward to our trip, day one, and we walked in to a shop in DTD and saw that they had a Goofy VM and a Holiday set. Mouths hit the floor and we bought one each hoping to get the ones we wanted. By the end of our trip we had bought nearly 65 of them and my DS8 had bought a 9" tall one. :rotfl2: We couldn't help our selves. We got addicted.

Just got back from CSR. I asked the lady in Panchitos ,and she told me that the resorts carry pins. In the past, I have bought a magnet from the resort, but no such luck. I did get a magnet in Dec. from Wilderness Lodge. Bring back specific resort merchandise!!!

I was so upset when I found out that they discontinued all of the resort specific merchandise. I hadn't even realized, they snuck it in on me!;) Last time I stayed at POR (I can't remember exactly when, i think it was alomst 2 yrs ago) they had a lot and it was on clearance. I was thrilled, and bought all kinds of things. I guess it turns out I shouldn't have been happy about the clearance, it must have been a "getting rid of it all" clearance. We stayed at WL last october, and I thought they had some WL merchandise but maybe I just assumed, as I already have a lot. I recently got addicted to the dis unplugged podcasts, and when the lack of resort specific merchandise was mentioned it took a while before that even sunk in. I couldn't believe they would possibly do that. Apparently they did, I really hope the rumors of it returning turnout to be true. We'll be at POR in November, so we'll see.

It's Disney's huge loss in my case to not have resort merchandise anymore. I have spent WAY too much over the years on it all, I have sweatshirts and sweaters from pretty much every resort we have stayed at, as well as mugs, magnets, shorts, note pads, pins, photos - you name it, I bought it. I really love my Dixie Landings pullover, I hate to wear it in case I would stain or ruin it. I have a pair of WL shorts that I wear around the house all of the time.

Now I've been frequenting e-bay for resort merchandise, I've gotten quite a collection over the years from there as well. Apparently, at least for now, that's my only option. I have been noticing over the past several years that all of the merchandise across all of WDW has slowly been homogenzing but never gave it that much thought. Now that I've listened to the podcasts and read a few threads like this it's bothering me more! Prices go up, choices go down.

I think everyone needs to boycott all of the Disney parks crud. I have. That way Meg Crofton may think twice about it and bring back that merchandise that we, as the consumer and the funders of her paycheck, really want.
