Resort room- will smells bother my mom?

I'm going to be traveling with my mom who has COPD and is very sensitive to strong, perfumey smells.

I'm not too concerned about this when we are out and about in the parks, I figure if we are somewhere that bothers her we can just leave. But I am concerned about the room. How heavy are the smells (cleaning products, air freshener) in the resort rooms? We'll be staying in an accessible suite at the Art of Animation

Should I call a few days before and make a note of this on my room reservation so that they don't over spray before we check in?

I've honestly never noticed any smell in the rooms we've stayed in.

I've also never noticed any particular smell in resort rooms.

It couldn't hurt to have it noted on your reservation, though.

I have it noted on my reservation but I also call the day before they will do a special cleaning they do a great job. One of out trips the only time I had a problem I couldn't even go in the room it had a very strong cleaner oder they moved us but they said there were people smoking in the non smoking room so they did a heavy cleaning

My son has asthma and he gets flare ups when he is around strong smells. he has never had a problem with the rooms. We too request the special cleaning and we note that we can not have strong smells.

I had been wracking my brain to try and remember our 2002 trip but I don't remember anything pungent. Thanks for the updated info. Good to know that it seems that the resorts may have already taken this into consideration if no one is smelly anything heavy. I'm sure it's not an uncommon problem given the number of people with asthma and/or allgeries.

I will make a note of it with my reservation just to be sure.

Smells easily get to me and I have never noticed any scents in any of our rooms. I would have even noticed strong cleaning product but there was none. It never hurts to make a request but maybe you can also pack some baking soda fridge friendly boxes to use if there happens to be a strong scent when you first checkin. It will absorb most of the odor in a few hours.

I don't have COPD, but I do have asthma, allergies, and perfume and chemical sensitivities and haven't had trouble with Disney resorts. As a PP said, you can request a special cleaning, but personally I haven't needed it.

I do get the hotel soaps, shampoos, and lotions sealed up into a Ziploc bag ASAP and use my own unscented ones for the duration. Once they're gone, though, everything else seems to be OK.

You will be ok in the rooms but may have issues in the inside resort common areas. I am not sure about AoA but in most of the resorts the main buildings are "scented". You don't really notice it but it is there. Also in most of the interior rides, they use scents to enhance the experience so she should expect that also... Have a good time.

I have more problems with perfume in lines and on rides than I do at resorts and sometimes I am already on ride before it hits. boat rides can be the worst plus soarin
