We are planning our first trip to Disney for November 2015. Our son will be almost 4 by then and I'm wondering which hotels are best for toddlers for being able to get back to the hotel quickly for naps or meltdowns

This can be a difficult question to answer. Assuming you're spending a lot of time at MK then a monorail resort is best (CR, GF, Poly, or even WL).

However if you're spending one day at each park or have an agenda along those lines the MK resort only helps you for one day. The other question is are you driving or using buses:

If buses and you have an agenda that has you visiting each of the parks you may find a better result at a moderate resort or value resort where the buses don't have multiple stops.

With a little more info about your trip plans (how many days, what parks, driving vs. bus) I think many posters on the board including me can give you additional tips.

We spent most of our time at the MK and we stayed at the Contemporary. Couldn't have been happier with the walk over to the MK, it was very nice when pushing a stroller to not have to load/unload from transit as much. We took bus/monorail to other parks but never spent much more than a half day at those. Stopped at the hotel to rest after the other parks and then walked over to the MK if we were up for it in the evening.

We will be spending most of our time at Magic kingdom I think. Maybe a little here or there at the other parks. Staying for 6 days

If your budget allows - Contemporary Resort all the way! You would be just a 5-10 minute walk away from the MK. Great for nap breaks!

If your budget is a little less Wilderness Lodge could be a good pick too. MK is a short boat ride or bus ride away.

The Contemporary is the closest to MK and the only one you can walk to from MK. We stayed there when our youngest was about 2, and it was so great to be able to walk to and from the park in 10 minutes! Especially the day he got sick all over himself and his stroller. We stripped him down to his diaper and DH carried him while I pushed the pukey stroller. We were so grateful that we were able to make a quick exit from the park that day!
