When you try to book a package/look for a quote, why does the values say $85.00, the mods say $145.00, but in actuality, a value is near $140.00 and the mods are over $200.00? When are the prices actually what they say they are? I have put in several different months just trying to compare.

Torn between September and October right now... Just trying to decide and wait for dining if it comes out...

Those rates are probably "starting at", which are the lowest pricing. Disney has several pricing seasons throughout the year and the rates vary depending on the time of year, as well as for weekdays or weekends. When you price out actual dates, you are given the rate for that particular pricing season.

Pricing has gotten more complicated as time has gone along . More complex more likely someone will pay more because of all the hoops.

Last year I got 3 prices for the same trip which varied over 2000.00

Prices have gone up again this year , and value season seems to not be such a value at deluxe resorts,

We are also going to plan around free dining...

Also it depends on the number of adults in your room. If you have more than two adults you are accessed a fee ranging from $10 to $25 per extra adult, per night, depending upon level of resort.

I was thinking that it was just that the rates were different at different times of the year but I thought September was a "low season" too but it doesnt seem like it... :(

I agree, OP about the prices going up.. and that value doesnt really seem value.:( It really stinks to see $140.00 and then by the time you get through, it is up to $202.00.. That is a huge difference when you want to stay 4 or 5 days.

I actually called reservation line and asked this same question and they said it's because of taxes.. Really?? an extra 60 plus dollars a night just for taxes?

MouseSavers has tables of what each room category at each resort costs for each season, not including tax: http://www.mousesavers.com/2013-walt-disney-world-resort-room-rates-season-dates/
Tax adds 12.5% (13% at the AllStars), extra adults add $10-25/night depending on resort category.

Edited to add that $85 is the weekday rate at the cheapest Value (AllStars) during "Value 1" season (parts of January and February). Early September is Value 2, $5/night more.

When I go to the WDW website it says "from $85 a night" for values and "from $162 a night" for mods. Those are the prices during Value 1 season during January and February.

OP_-Where are you seeing $145 a night for mods?

You will have to hunt to find out exactly which resort is offering the advertized price. The disney search will not give you the price automatically. Usually the best bet is to give them a call and find out exactly where is the advertized price being offered.

Here's a great example...I booked AllStar Music, from May 28 to June 1, and then AoA, LM room from June 1 to June 3. My room rate breakdown...
May 28...$87.20.....Tues
May 29...$87.20.....Wed
May 30...$87.20.....Thurs
May 31...$126.40....Fri
June 1....$173.00....Sat
June 2....$148.00....Sun

Both value resorts, basically, both the same time of year. But one is slightly less desirable (Music) and the weekday nights are less...weekend night goes up. Then, AoA-LM rooms are highly desirable, and one is a weekend night, even Sunday night is expensive by value resort comparisons. And those are just the actual room rates...no taxes included there! It's truly crazy!!!!

Actually, the OP is saying that she's seeing $140 a night for values, but the price only gets that high during the time frame she's looking at (September and October) when you look at a preferred rooms over Columbus Day weekend. By comparison, weeknights in a standard room in the first half of September are $90 a night, and $98 a night for the second half of September and the rest of October.

ETA: I see she is saying that she read $145 a night for moderates, but like you said, moderates actually start at $162 a night.

Sorry, I meant $145 not $140
