Resort Pools

Depends on which pools youare talking about. At SAB, yes, they check. They were randomly checking at the Polynesian last week. I've also seen them check at the BW.

I am talking about the Poly. How do they check? Do they ask for room key? What if you say, well my husband has it and he's hanging out in the lobby or something?? (LOL)

They will ask to see your WDW resort I.D./room card (for those wondering, they can also tell which WDW resort your I.D. card is from by the long #'s imprinted on them)

If you try and say you don't have it, that your husband does as you mention, they may make you go get it from him to show them. That being said, if you ask permission first from the lifeguards, you may be granted permission to have guests. You never know. But, I wouldn't just try sneaking people in - if asked to produce I.D. and you can't, I have seen people asked to leave.

Everyone is issued a resort ID card at check in, and is expected to be able to produce one at the pool.

Yes, they have been cracking down at the Poly because of all the pool hoppers. I have seen the lifeguards checking for IDs and asking people to leave on my trips in October and May. They just aren't doing this in busy season. I am sure if you use some excuse about your husband having the room key they will make you get it. Who is this guest anyway? In your OP you made is sound like it was someone YOU were bringing as if you were staying at the Poly. In the above post it sounds like it is YOU that isn't supposed to be there. Which is it?

We have been asked twice for ID's and DH did really have the room key and was at the pool bar, I did go get it and retreived my room key and kept it with me after that. I was embarrased and I really was staying there. (This was at Poly)

Just ask and then you won't have to worry about making up excuses that could end up embarrassing you and your guest. If the pool is busy, you probably will be out of luck. If not, they may allow it...but it is always best to ask first.

FWIW, when we were staying at the YC, we were always asked to produce our room keys, even the children (I had to go back to the room the first time, I didn't forget again, after that). It was sort of a pain, but then you quickly realize that 'crowd control' at a popular pool is really important.

We've stayed at the Polynesian many times, even during the summer when the pool was very crowded. I have never seen an ID checked and there were tons of people that obviously didn't belong there and made no attempt to hide it.

Don't worry about making up lies to try to explain. I doubt anyone will check.

I bet they've never heard that one before.

I'm not accusing anyone of being sneaky, but why would anyone not have a room key with them? As soon as you say, my "husband has one and I don't" the suspicion level goes way up.

They randomly check resort ID/room keys. You will also need the ID for towels.

Actually you don't need any ID for towels. They are there for the taking by anyone.

When we go to the pool, I only take one key. Sometimes my husband takes it to Captain Cooks or somewhere if he's going to charge to the room.

I think you're more likely to see ID checks at the deluxe report pools than at the value or moderate pools. I've never been asked for ID when at the pool.

I emailed Disney about Pool usage recently to the Polynesian and this is the reply I recieved from the Recreation Manager at the Polynesian.

I was told they would be checking ID's as they dispensed towels. I guess if they are stationed there you need ID, if not then you can get a towel without ID.

I am staying at the Wilderness Lodge and don't plan on pool hopping (it's hard enough getting organized for our own hotel pool with a 2 year old), but was curious about how you "know" that people don't belong to that pool? I often see that said in posts about pool hopping. Just curious.....

The obvious ones discuss it. ::yes:: You also see them coming from the parking lots with their pool things and they don't have a parking pass for that resort or from a DVC resort.

We just came back from the Boardwalk. On the 4th of July weekend, they were checking resort ids as you entered the pool area and giving out wristbands.

Wow. That must be new. We were just there in May and the towels are in little carts all around the pool. It has always been like this. I'll believe it when I see it on our next trip in 83 days!!!! I doubt this will keep the hoppers out of the pool and now it makes it so I can only get one towel. I always get tons of towels for us but I guess those days are over!

Why would that make someone more suspicious? When dh and I go out I never bring my keys if he has his. Same when we are at the resort. One less thing for me to lose ;)
