If we are staying at a Disney resort, can we use any resorts pools? What keeps guests from using a different resort's pool than the one they are staying? What keeps the locals out?

Back when I was living in Orlando, I had heard rumors that locals sometimes park at Downtown Disney and take the bus to a resort and swim. I also heard of locals getting ADRs at one of the resort restaurants and not using the ADR, but just parking at the resort and using the facilities. This was a while ago and since I heard Disney now checks your room key or something to keep locals that are not staying at the resort out. Would this key check also keep me from using a different resort's pool?

From what I know "pool hopping" is not allowed at Disney. I believe for DVC members the rules are different. I'm not one so I'm not exactly sure. But I'm sure someone will come along w/correct info on that. One time when we were staying at AKL they were checking room keyes to be sure of who was to be swimming in the pool. You are only allowed to swim in the pool of the resort you are staying at. popcorn::

Some resorts are "sister" resorts ie; POR & POFQ share facilities and the AllStars share. Other than that, unless you are a DVC member (and even they have restrictions), you play where you pay.

I don't know, morals?

The numbers printed on your room key designate which resort you are staying at, so yes, CM's checking keys know what numbers to look for.

:scared: Oh... this is such a hot topic on these boards... :scared:

The quick answer is, no, you are only supposed to use the pool at the resort you are staying at.

Pool hopping is frowned upon (to put it mildly) by a great many DISers (so if you do it, don't tell anyone...) :rolleyes1

This response will self destruct in 4...3...2...1...

Pool hopping is not allowed.

You can only swim at the resort where you have a reservation.

You have received the answer. I am going to close this thread before it gets nasty.
