I wasn't sure where to put this question in, but I'm wondering if there was a way to go "resort pool hopping" without a car? Are there buses available to resort guests? Even at FW?

Thanks!

You are allowed to only use the pool at your resort. Exceptions would be POFQ and POR can share, as well as the all stars. Also, DVC members are allowed to pool hop as part of their being members of DVC. Also, you are not allowed to use any Disney resort pool if you are not staying at that resort. People have tried to stay off site and then use the Poly pool as a break... a big no-no.

So, no pool hopping, sorry, according to official Disney policy.

Welcome to the DIS!

I had no idea. We're making our first trip the first week of April. My husband will be very disappointed, as he was looking forward to checking out the other facilities for possible future trips.

We are allowed to visit other resorts, yes?

Yes, you can visit the other resorts and even check out the pools (visually, that is). It's a nice way to take time off from the parks and scope out where you'd like to spend your next Disney vacation.

You are absolutely allowed to visit other resorts. You can dine there, you can shop there, you can rent boats from the various marinas, you can even sit at the pool bar there and order drinks. You can wander the grounds, and even wander the pool deck, but you can't swim in the pool if you are not staying there.

As far as transportation, there is no "resort to resort" transportation. We generally stay at the Value Resorts. We do visit many other resorts. We usually go there for lunch or an early dinner. How we do this is take the bus from whatever theme park we are at to the resort we want to visit. We have lunch, we then wander the shops, we then wander their pathways, and then catch a bus back to whatever theme park we want to spend the afternoon/evening.

We love spending an early evening at the POFQ Pool Bar. So we make it a tradition on our Animal Kingdom day (which closes early) to take a bus over to POFQ. We then have a few drinks at the bar there and chat with the bartender. We then take the boat to DTD and have dinner, then go to Pleasure Island, then take a bus back to our Value Resort.

Absolutley! During our first on-site stay, we drove to many of the resorts that we thought we might want to stay at. We simply told the guard we would like to check out the resort. Never a problem. We even had dinner at one of the values. It is a great, free excursion. Like CLKelley said, you are more than welcome to check out the pool areas (and the rest of the resort), you just can't actually swim, legally and morally.

Have a great trip!

Thank you all for your very helpful comments. I'm sorry I inadvertently stepped in it, so to speak.

We are all very excited about our trip (and for me, a little nervous that it all goes fairly smoothly). But it sounds like we will have plenty of fun in- and out-of-park things to do.

All the best,
Bacon

I think this is the very 1st time a pool-hopping thread had a happy ending:banana: yay!

To the OP enjoy your trip!

:welcome: to the DIS boards!!! Keep checking the boards and you'll get some terrific info!!! The only way to learn is to ask questions, and you're right, this particular topic is a 'hot one'. But, don't worry. Now you know.
I actually had some of the same issues the first time I went to WDW. I wasn't sure if I would be able to actually go to the other resorts and check them out. I figured they were only for those that were staying there. So...I never checked them out!!! But, I didn't know any better. I didn't know about these wonderful boards. So...no stupid questions. That's how we all learn!!!

i wonder why we were allowed to hop at disneyland but not disneyworld. i hope this doesn't start a debate, i'm just wondering.

Because those are the rules.... They don't really have to give us thier reasons.

(I expect it's because we are talking a LOT more guests, a LOT more pools and a much bigger variation in the pools between resorts!)

Back, many years ago when there were just 3-4 resorts at WDW, pool hopping was allowed. However, now with all the value and moderate resorts up and running, pool hopping has been discontinued. Why? Because those staying at resorts with 'lesser' pools would flock to the resorts with pools that were more themed and had better amenities. The value resorts have no slides or hot tubs. The moderates have slides and hot tubs but the slides are not nearly as good as those in the deluxes. And the deluxes have much more themed pool areas, with some great slides. But, you pay for those things with higher room rates.
So...if anyone staying on-site was allowed to pool hop to any pool, the deluxe pools would be jammed with people. So....Disney changed the rules. Now, there is signage at every pool stating that the pool is for guests of that particular resort only.
Please.....this is not a 'slight' towards those not staying in a deluxe resort!!! I stay at all levels. But, people have to understand that the amenities at each level resort is not going to be the same. At BW I get to walk to Epcot and MGM....at POP I have to take a bus everywhere. That's just one of the things I pay for at BW...the ability to walk to my favorite park.

Probably because it was started on the Transportation Board and not the Resorts Board.
:thumbsup2 :cool1:

I have a question, though not really affecting me (I am not DVC). Is Stormalong now off limits to pool hopping for DVC? I thought I read that some time ago, it is only for those actually staying at Y&BC.

Morning Dan. Yes, SAB is off limits for DVC...as well as the pool at AKL. To keep this 'transportation' based....it sure would be easier to get to BC from BW than over to AKL in order to swim.;)

shhhh! now goofy4tink is going to say that is because we DO have pixie dust over here!!! then she'll sprinkle some around, along with a few hugs and kisses, like this....

:crazy2:

On my first trip to WDW I stayed at the Hotel Plaza and took a WDW bus to every single resort to view the properties, sample the food, and decide where to stay IF I ever stayed onsite. It made for some good 'downtime' - I would visit 2-3 hotels every day or so (of course, there were a few less in 1994!)

Thanks, Diane, thought I read that somewhere. And what a smart, and pleasant, moderator you are. :thumbsup2 :woohoo:
