Since SOG is now charging to park, and parking is free at the parks for AP and Resort Guests, can AP and Resort Guests park at MK over-night?

I don't know.

When did SOG start charging to park?

I know that the Dolphin and Swan do charge - but their parking is worth it.

I saw it posted here that some received e-mails stating that SOG was going to start charging for parking.
And what did you mean by "but their parking is worth it." Do they wash your car, change your oil, clean your windshield, check you tires' air pressure, what makes it worth it?

you can easily walk or boat to Studios or Epcot from D/S.

You can walk to the Polyn from SOG - but you sure can't walk to the MK from it.

Here is the e-mail regarding parking at SOG. It looks like everyone received it today.

Dear Future Guest:
We know you are looking forward to your upcoming visit to
Shades of Green. This letter is to notify you of a recent change to a
Shades of Green policy. It is our responsibility to ensure the safety and
security of our guests and the vehicles parked on our property.

Shades of Green will implement a nominal parking fee for our guests and
visitors. Effective April 1, 2005, the following parking fees will
apply:

Self Parking
$3.00 per day

Valet Service
$3.00 per day (parking fee) plus $5.00 usage fee*

* Valet usage fee allows unlimited valet (in and out) for 1 calendar
day.

If you will be parking a vehicle at Shades of Green during
your stay, you will be charged a fee per day to do so. Please
understand, providing the best possible service and maintaining the highest
standards of security for our guests is our main objective.

We hope you enjoy your stay at Shades of Green and we look
forward to seeing you soon.

Kindest regards,
The Shades of Green Staff

I don't think that they want over night parking at any of the parks. I would seriously worry about having your car towed if you did this.
Sorry to hear that they are charging you to park. Valet has been charging over at the deluxe resorts but as far as I know, overnight parking is still free. I guess that since SOG is not owned by Disney just like the Swan and Dolphin they have the right to implement their own parking fees.

Wouldn't raising the room rate a buck or two per night (since not everyone brings a car) and not spelling it out, be a much more palatable way of inserting a parking fee? I'm sure the people who rely on provided transportation don't think so, but their portion could go to offsetting the fee Disney gets for the buses.

There should be a smiley with a hard hat for when you know in advance that you are going to get shelled. :smooth:

We received our 'parking fee' email today also.

And, our thought is that because they're charging us to park to ensure 'better security'- "It is our responsibility to ensure the safety and
security of our guests and the vehicles parked on our property.", we will now expect that they will assume responsibility for any damage to our car while it's parked on SoG property.

And, it's making the valets suffer for it too. Who's going to fork over $8 a day AND tip the valet too? We don't use valet- but for those who got used to the free valet parking since SoG reopened after renovations, that's a shocker.

No flames please.... it's JMHO..... :confused3

"Flower" I envy you .. 1 more day huh!!!

I think this is a trend resulting from offsite guests using Disney resorts for free parking. I wish they would start it at BWV. I wouldn't mind paying a daily fee if it meant I could find a space easily.

Valet parking is $7.00 at the other WDW resorts.

Unfortunetly, you cannot.

During the overnight times, the parking lot is cleaned out, maintenance is performed, and most importantly, buses are actually parked in the MK car parking lot.

I TOTALLY agree with you! It's like when you go to a concert or other event that you have paid admission for and they charge you to park. Build the cost into my ticket -- I don't think you are charging me "extra" and more revenue is generated when it's built into the ticket/room price since not everyone will be using that service. I hate the whole paying to park thing in cases like this!
